track numbers in front of song names in windows music library, windows 7

I have track numbers in front of some of my song names (not title) in my music libarary.  How do I get rid of them.  They are not in the "name" in WMP.  I try to right click and rename and that doesn't work.  I try going through properties into details and delete numbers in front of name, but it doesn't stay changed.  Tried to edit in WMP and that doesn't work.  Nothing I do permenantly changes the name (not title). 

Help!!!!!!

    I,ll have to do my research on google.   So....am i to hide just the duplicates that are in the same file or hide all dups?

    I think it's a case of see what happens when they are hidden and we go through the restore again...

    What are your thoughts on Google Play?

    Ok....i will hide those files but what about the right click, delete not working in wmp?  It works in windows library, just not in wmp and this is new since we restored wmp?  Pls advise.

    In the first instance using 'Hide' may be the best option - WMP won't read hidden files - as many of the doubled-up ones you mentioned in the second post. Try to make sure it's the unresponsive ones you hide!

    One other suggestion about backing up your music... Do you know about Google Music Player? It's extremely useful because you can upload your entire library (up to 50,000 tracks) free - they are also available for free download if you ever lose anything so particularly good for anything rare or personal. Mainstream music is matched to Google's own database but anything that cannot be matched will be uploaded from your PC. You can also add the player app to authorized mobile devices so it gives you access anywhere you can go online.
