After more than 2 weeks searching for answers, I tried all these procedures:

1. Using DISM en SFC tools
2. Reset Windows Update Componenten (using Windows Powershell)
3. Activate .NET Framework
4. Updates without firewall
5. Using Windows Update Troubleshooter
6. App Readiness on automatic after manual activating
7. Download update from Microsoft Windows 10 download site
8. Updates without (removed) viruscanner
9. Using Windows Media Creation Tool (successful!)

After unsuccessfully trying solutions 1 to 8, I found this very interesting post written by Sumit(volunteer moderator):

I followed the instructions of Sumit and used the Media Creation Tool (MCT) to effectively realise the migration from Windows 10 version 2004 to version 20H2. What MCT does is that it apparently follows a different route to upgrade to version 20H2, other than the usual Windows Update procedure. Using MCT to migrate to Windows 10 version 20H2 went (in my situation) successfully!

However, there are a few remarks I would like to make:

• Using MCT is a very time-consuming procedure. In my situation (read: my configuration, harddisk speed,  and setting of system parameters) it took me almost 2 hours to migrate to version 20H2.
• The procedure contains multiple reboots of the system.
• I expected a faster start up with version 20H2, since this is a renewed/refreshed Operating System. That is unfortunately not the case. I believe the start-up of version 20H2 is somewhat slower than the 2004 version.
• I hoped for some sort of indicator telling you how the start-up of Windows is developing i.e. a percentage (like the update installer) or time remaining to finish the Windows start-up procedure. Maybe an idea for the next version of Windows?

But I'm very happy that I was able to migrate to Windows 10 version 20H2 successfully. Thanks Sumit!

Error 0x800f0922 occurs when downloading the newest update of Windows 10. It also means that you have less than 500 MB in system reserved partition. You may follow the methods provided below and check if you'll be able to update your device.

Method 1. Check your Internet connection

You need to make sure that you have an internet connection and if possible, you are using wired connections

Method 2. Check .NET Framework
Make sure you have the latest version of NET Framework installed. You may enable it in Windows features. Here's how:

1. Type Windows Features on the search bar and press Enter.
2. Select Turn Windows Features on or off.
3. Check any boxes related to DotNet Framework and save selection.
4. Restart your PC.

Method 3. Turn off your Firewall

We know that this is strange doing, but even Firewall can prevent updates occasionally. Here's how you can turn it off:

1. Type Firewall on the search bar and press Enter.
2. Open Turn Windows Firewall on or off.
3. Turn off Firewall for both private and public networks.
4. Save your selection.
5. After saving your selection, you may try updating your device.

It didn't work...

I applied the changes in the initial step fully (checked all .NET boxes -- only one called .NET Environment was unchecked)  but Update for Win10 V20H2 to all way to 100% install then screen read,   cannot apply changes will revert back to original configuration.    I then applied the method of cutting off firewall and additionally all protection  (by Norton 360) with Defender as secondary protection.   Went through download and install again through the 100% and got same message of failure and reverting to original system.    

Going to read through all the other replies and see what they say in case your solutions had a revision in the comment section.    Computer auto update is still trying to install the available update.    By the way I got a error message of Error 0x800f0922.     Not sure what to try next.   Below is computer specification generally.   Attempted up fate was Cumulative update Win10  V20H2,  KB 5003173 which may help.  

On a further note I noticed one site suggesting the problem is  related to MS Chromium Edge.   It indicated that the Edge folder would likely be empty so I looked in Program Files /  Microsoft and found 2 files.  The EDGE folder has only two files in it  -- one called MSEdgeRecovery which is "empty" and the other is Edge.dat  which does not open.    No other MS Dege files at all.    So I went to start menu and clicked on MS EDGE  program and it just hesitates,  blinks on screen with nothing and goes back to desktop.   Apparently EDGE has been uninstalled -- maybe during the attemt to install the  V20H2 update itself.   It has been working until today.    

I went  Settings/ Apps/ Edge and selected Advanced Options.    The first option is "Repair" which I clicked.   It brought up the WAIT  sysbol and 1 second later says repair complete.    So I just assumed that did not work as nothing takes a second on a computer except to get a virus.   The second option was to "RESET" MS Edge so I clicked on it.   Got the Waiting symbol which lasted for a minute.    Then said Reset complete.    Still cannot open MS Edge from Start Menu Programs and let the Windows Update proceed once again with the  download and install of  the Win10  V20H2 update.    Long wait,  reboot several times,   waiting as usual and then finally  FAILURE  AGAIN.    Message was couldn't complete the updates -- undoing changes to revert back to original state.   

Looked to "UNINSTALL"  Edge but cannot find a method of getting to it since it is part of the operating system I suppose.    Try to access  New Download of  MS Chromium Edge for Win10 but  (using Firefox since Edge is not working) it takes me to Install Edge Now button and I click on it and nothing happens.   

I am at loss and frustrated since I am seeing the next option is to "Reinstall Windown 10" using the Create Media Tool.     Any thhoughs of hope??    Maybe a way to remove reminants of EDGE and a download link that will not freeze up while using Firefox.
