Windows Update Error 0x800f0922

Hi,  while most recent (14/02/18) auto updates were installing they failed and windows removed failed files. Problem error code 0x800f0992 appeared, not sure what to do as website does not explain how to cure problem with any clarity. Possibly to do with NET framework. Should I wait for possible patch/workaround.

your usual expertise would be appreciated.

Hi Rob,

Error 0x800f0922 occurs when downloading the newest update of Windows 10. It also means that you have less than 500 MB in system reserved partition. You may follow the methods provided below and check if you'll be able to update your device.

Method 1. Check your Internet connection

You need to make sure that you have an internet connection and if possible, you are using wired connections

Method 2. Check .NET Framework

Make sure you have the latest version of NET Framework installed. You may enable it in Windows features. Here's how:

  1. Type Windows Features on the search bar and press Enter.
  2. Select Turn Windows Features on or off.
  3. Check any boxes related to DotNet Framework and save selection.
  4. Restart your PC.

Method 3. Turn off your Firewall

We know that this is strange doing, but even Firewall can prevent updates occasionally. Here's how you can turn it off:

  1. Type Firewall on the search bar and press Enter.
  2. Open Turn Windows Firewall on or off.
  3. Turn off Firewall for both private and public networks.
  4. Save your selection.
  5. After saving your selection, you may try updating your device.

    I feel your pain; I went through this in previous Windows 7 and 8, and still it's crap in W10.  Now i  have Outlook 2016 prompting for my password periodically - another mystery.  Windows is a mess and my next computer will be Apple, sick of Microsoft.

    Anyway,

    What I did is this:  You can uninstall the update by going to WINDOWS UPDATES and then view update history; then uninstall the update.  I also went into SERVICE (type services in the search bar); fine Windows Updateand change Startup Type to Disable.

    I still notice Windows periodically checks for Updates, but by disabling it, it will not download the update is what I understand.

    I'm at my witt's end with these update failures.  I've spent hours trawling the net, trying out every solution I can find but none of them has worked.  I'm not too bothered the updates themselves haven't installed but what's driving me crazy is that it keeps attempting - and failing - to install them every single day for weeks on end.  It's complete madness!  It's such a vague error code that there's obviously no definitive solution and it's trial and error of the multiple suggestions out there (some of which I'm concerned may inadvertently cause other issues).  Surely Microsoft can be more specific as to the reason for the failure and how to resolve this issue that is obviously being experienced by many?  For people like me with a certain amount of computer knowledge but by no means an expert (and those with even less knowledge) it's a flipping nightmare to try and resolve.  Do Microsoft really expect us to take our PCs to professionals and pay to get them 'fixed'?  If so then that is unbelievably arrogant as there's nothing wrong with my PC - the problem is obviously with the updates themselves.  Plus I need it every day for work so it would be a very expensive 'fix'.  Can someone PLEASE tell me how to stop it trying to install these ****ing updates so it just leaves me in peace?

    cannot check the boxes which is related to .NET FRAMEWORK 3.5(includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0)

    Surely there are far more than600 having issues. MS is deflecting their responsibilities to the consumer as usual. They wish to have a public forum do the guess work for them. More incorrect advice and answers only dd to the anger and frustration to the folks that pay the bills for MS ! Go figure. :-(
