Windows 10 update broke my computer?

I hate to say this because I don't want to sound like one of "those guys," but at this point, I am seriously considering a Mac. Since all I actually need is a tower it will not be nearly as expensive as trying to buy the programs to make Linux work with cad programs and such. Luckily I still have a working laptop or I would be totally screwed relying on my Android devices alone which you cannot just plug a tablet pen into and get those straight lines with measurements I need. The problem is, what happens when they push the next round of updates onto my system, will it kill my laptop as well? I guess we will find out eventually but for now, best of luck to everyone who are having this issue and rely on the Windows OS to run programs for their businesses.

I'm typing this on my phone, because yesterday my laptop running win10 had been nagging me to update. I delayed it for a couple of hours because I was going out and thought I'd let it do its thing while I was out...Well it sure has done its thing. I've just come to open the lid and met with which keyboard I wish..then a circular mental test to try and boot it up.. Nothing. This is a 6 month old HP laptop that was running sweet until today. 

How does a company get this far with such incompetent employees? 

If I have to do a reformat I stand to lose 100s of wildlife photographs I haven't yet had chance to back up. Thanks MS, I berate my wife for her overpriced Apple computer, I'm beginning to see her point, because right now your product sucks. I don't want to see a response about how you appreciate your users or how upset you feel. I want an answer that doesn't involve me joining a class action suit against your shabby approach, and losing all my files. 

Exactly as Steve has said.  What on earth are MS thinking of, rolling out an update that was clearly not fit for purpose?!  Although my laptop isn't 6 months old, it was NOWHERE NEAR needing a replacement, which I am going to be forced into getting!  Not only this, but we are now mid August 2018.  The initial post here was March 2018 - a full 5 months down the line!  Are you seriously telling me that in that time, MS couldn't have 1) fixed the bugs that are killing computers left right and centre or 2) removed the update until the bugs have been resolved?!  

If my workmanship was like this, I would have been booted out the door long ago!  

APPLE - as soon as you start manufacturing computers within my price range, you'll have a new customer! And I'm pretty sure, I wouldn't be the only one. 

MICROSOFT - Your astounding hubris will be your downfall.  And don't believe the hype - you are NOT too big to fail!

I know the frustration however, Apple is not the answer either, they have been doing everything they can to screw their customers over as well. I would suggest looking up computing forever on YouTube who is an Apple user and mentions the slowing down and fewer and fewer features on their new computers. It seems the only option to get away from both of these is a custom build with Linux on them but then you have to find work arounds for any software you need to use on that operating system. So far my old laptop is still working but she does blue screen and has since the day I got her which Toshiba you people need to be kicked square in the rear for selling junk. Hopefully this post helps save you more time and frustration on yet another failing platform, if Google ever releases a operating system for pc's, that would be the one I would suggest, however, with their selling of information just like Microsoft, I can see privacy being a huge issue with that as well.

Just a bit of an update with my situation. I may have mentioned on this thread but I dpent a long time waiting on the phone with MS, until it was obvious they too werre frustrated at what their colleagues had done for them to pick the pieces up from. 

The upshot, I did have to reformat and put everything back as far as I could. Minus the update. That I had to have done by remote access by a MS guy who really did know his stuff. 

He told me that (and this is the common reason for the failures) the BIOS should have been updated before the new build was installed. He admitted that nowhere does MS tell you this. 

After he did the updates it ran okay for a short while but doesn't run like it did before the update. It's slower, it crashes frequently, and I've lost count how many times I've had the medium blue screen of death before restarting..I've even had a black screen telling me there is no hard drive or operating system installed! 

Well done MS!! And there's rumour they're going to start charging a monthly fee to use win10. How that will sit I have no idea. Not well I suspect though.

Thanks for the update, as far as them trying to push a fee for using a paid for operating system on a monthly basis. I feel that there will be a class action suit at that point that may actually bankrupt the company. Too many businesses are switching to 10 now and since WalMart just put windows 10 on their cash registers, that will not go well for Microsoft. WalMart has deep deep pockets as well and with the private home users joining in on that suit, Microsoft will bankrupt itself in the process of trying to push such a plan. Not to mention too many students and unemployed people are still using this windows to either A get their college degrees through online schools such as the University of Phoenix or B job search which in today's climate in certain areas it is still nearly impossible to find work. 

Another added bonus is every new computer comes with the latest windows on it, it is not like we can just go back to windows 7 which I would prefer actually because 8 was horrible and they know this, so I highly doubt they try to do that crap knowing they will be sued for more than what a previous user mentioned which was 100 billion, it would be in the trillions at that point with windows being the most popular operating system. Plus the gaming community and companies would come after them, they would be boycotted on all platforms including the Xbox so yeah that would financially cripple them.
