Windows 10 update broke my computer?

Hello. I'm quite unhappy with my entire experience. I have had to contact support multiple times because my computer "wasn't on the list" of computers able to run the latest updates. I find this incredibly ironic, as it has 8gb of ram, lots of disk space,  and a very nice processor (~2.6ghz). I have had my agents help me as much as they could, and that wasn't the bad part, they did great! For a day... Somehow, even after they went and did the whole thing about delaying updates for 8 months or so, The Windows 10 update installer app downloaded. It has hogged me for the past week, with me having to abort multiple updates, not wanting to lose my pc again. I am a student, and can not afford a new one, but just recently I gave up and let it update. It quit out halfway through, as usual, and went back to the same condition it was at. Nothing works.

This is not like last time, I had to get a Windows 10 system on a usb, and repair my boot loader last time. This time, Windows simply won't do anything. It's currently telling me the only option left is a hard reset.

I have physically tried everything besides a hard reset. I refuse. Why should I lose my personal belongings, when it's out of my control? This is not an issue with anything except Windows. What can be done about this? I am very disappointed in the fact this has ruined my computer, I really hope you can do something about this.

    The laptop doesn't recognize the network, so I can't get the Win 10 download on it. Literally, the pc comes on, says 'please wait' until it times out, and then gives a hard error that doesn't respond to the touchpad or any movement of the cursor, and at that point the only thing to do is shut it off.  Myself personally, it's already hard broken and I keep plugging away til I fix it.  Being an old retired guy, I often forget to search first.  I'll go over to a friend's home and get the download there.  Thanks for your help and info, though.

    Myself personally, if something fails again and again, whether it's a computer or anything else, I don't keep on trying. Don't want to take the chance of breaking something. Instead, I find out what the reason is or ask someone for help.

    About Asus: Good luck finding someone there who understands English.

    About buying a Windows 10 DVD: Why would you do that when you can download the installer direct from Microsoft for free? Go to Download Windows 10. Your computer already has/had Windows 10 on it, right? So it's already activated, and you don't need to pay for another license.

    Same problem.  I have an ASUS UX501V with i7 6th gen processor, 16Gb RAM, 512Gb SSD, 4K screen, worked great until I finally let Win 10 update again (I tried it several times, it would try/fail/try/fail/revert back to the previous build).  This time it rebooted and crashed.  After numerous restarts, I got to the sign-on screen, but after sign-on, the PC doesn't recognize the desktop, nor the network, and gives a series of unknown / hard errors which I can't get past.  I have a weekly backup on an external drive, but no way to access it.  I purchased a Win 10 repair flash drive, to no avail either.  I scanned the ASUS website, also no help on accessing the recovery drive area.  I know have a $1.6k doorstop and a bad taste in my mouth for the 'feature upgrade' that I didn't need, can't stop, and still don't have.  I'll try some of the things listed here, at least the ones I haven't already found/tried.  I am considering buying a Win 10 DVD to reinstall and then restore my backup, but I'm steamed that I end up paying over a hundred bucks to get rid of something I didn't want to begin with, especially here at Christmas.  Anyone have a specific experience with this ASUS of the unknown hard error?  Thanks in advance if you do, or read this.

    To disable Windows 10 Automatic Updates:

    1. Go to Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Services
    2. Scroll down to Windows Update in the resulting list
    3. Double click the Windows Update Entry
    4. In the resulting dialog, if the service is started, click 'Stop'
    5. Set Startup Type to Disabled

    I am mystified that this is not common knowledge. Even Microsoft provides instructions on how to disable automatic updates "and put you in control".  Google "stop windows 10 automatic updates" several

    methods are provided. I used a couple of the methods together, but it was some time ago and I am unwilling to guess which 2. I will say that I have not gotten another auto update since. Yes I did this after an auto update screwed up my drivers and video card leaving me with no display whatsoever.
