Updated computer now Asus PCE AC68 will not work

I tried a LOT of the suggestions below, none of them fixed the disconnects.

I ended up with trying several drivers / driver versions.

I now use Broadcom 7.35.317.3 (instead of Asus drivers)

And since this driver all works fine again :)

So maybe worth a try if you experience problems after the last Windows updates.

I have also had countless issues with the Asus PCE-AC68 card since updating to builds 1709 and now 1803. It's been insane! I can however, definitely confirm that this Broadcom Driver method is a fix in the meantime. 

While the "PCI Lock" Method (msconfig/boot menu/advanced) did allow my PC to at least startup (thereby avoiding the "widifi.sys" BSOD error), however booting in PCI Lock mode prevented my wireless capability and audio from working. The PCE-AC68 card was showing in device manager, however it failed to startup (yellow error triangle/stop code 10). And strangely, all WiFi options (including the Win10Pro WiFi button) were missing altogether. At least the PCI Lock mode allowed me to startup and connect via ethernet to download the Broadcom Driver.

I could not locate Broadcom Driver 7.35.317.3 at the Broadcom Website (imagine that!). Rather, I had to download it for free from a 3rd Party Driver website. After manually installing the Broadcom 7.35.317.3 (64 Bit) driver in device manager, I then removed the ethernet cable, turned off (unchecked) PCI Lock, and then rebooted the machine. It started up perfectly, then I enabled WiFi, and now have full functionality of my PCE-AC68 wireless card. I'm connected back wirelessly at 350+ Mbps.

It's absolutely beyond RIDICULOUS that Asus and Microsoft alike continue passing the blame as to who's responsible for this miserable failure. Both companies exceed the professionals and resources to resolve what is an infuriating and widespread issue, yet they refuse to provide a legitimate remedy.

The problem is solved!

Computer Configuration:

Asus Sabertoin P2.0, AMD fx 8350, wifi aс68

Procedure:

1 Windows update to version 16.299.251.

2 !!!Delete the wifi aс68 utility!!!.

3 In the device manager, remove the network adapter as68, including drivers.

4 Reboot the computer.

5 Open the beer and enjoy life!

Be careful with this.  I couldn't wait and replaced the 68 with an 88 unit.  When I locked the pci bus as a test, the 88 went incommunicado on the next boot; that was the only observed failure.  Unlocking and then rebooting brought it back.   So there are definite differences between the 88 and 68 in terms of how they behave as Windows manipulates the registers on the PCI bus -- or as whatever device driver Windows is using does this.  Apparently the 88 driver has a problem with how Windows/driver implemented atomic operations.    Thank you for the fix -- will try it out when I build my next Windows box.

I made some investigation on two different computers with the same Asus Wifi card PCE-AC68.

System 1:

Mainboard:  Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3-AM3+

Processor:  AMD Phenom II X6 1075T

System 2

Mainboard:  MSI H97M-E35

Processor:  Intel CPU Core i3-4160 (1150)

Fresh insalled W10 pro 1703, Asus driver installed, both computers have a functioning Wifi card.

Fresh insalled W10 pro 1709, Asus driver installed,

The intel system is okay, on the Amd system the card driver is not starting, code 10.
