Windows 10 rollback stuck

A client of mine has a Windows 10 desktop she bought a couple of years ago. Last week a user (we think her grandson) tried to rollback to a previous version of Windows. But, since Windows 10 is the original OS on the computer, it's stuck. Asks for keyboard language, then gives options to run Windows rollback or Windows 10. When you choose, it reboots and goes right back to the keyboard options. How can I get past this and fix the issue?

Hi Andrea,

Corrupted system files after trying to rollback are one of the possible reasons why this issue is happening. Usually, restarting the computer should resolve the issue.

If the issue still persists even after restarting your computer, we recommend repairing Windows thru Advanced options. Follow the steps below:

  1. Press F8 while booting your computer to access System Recovery options.
  2. Click Troubleshoot.
  3. Select Command Prompt.
  4. Enter the following commands below, then press Enter after each command:
    • chkdsk c: /f
    • bootrec /fixmbr
    • bootrec /fixboot
    • bootrec /rebuildbcd
    • bcdboot c:\windows /s c:
  5. Once done with the above commands, restart your computer and see if the problem is fixed.

    Hello,

    My computer had an update and I stucked with the key options too. When I've read this instruction, I got to Command Prompt and it says: "Not enough memory resources are available to process this command."

    Anyway, I tried to wrote down according to your instructions, but I don't know how to put [ : ] in command ( my keyboard is in croatian language).

    Same here & till now i have tried all of the solutions offered and find on the net: nothing to solve the problem. SFC/scannow: not at all. It said: Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation. My backups are not approachable (extern medium through USB); mediacreationtool:  nope again. My vacation is ruined thanks this 1803 update!

    Is there an proper and quick solution? My files: i need them! HELP!

    Well done MS. This looks like utter incompetence on your part.

    I have two Dell Inspiron Desktops that were working last night. This morning, only one.

    The working one was hibernated, the other was shut-down.

    The latest Windows 10 update has broken it on restart.

    When will you fix it and compensate for the inconvenience?

    Same. I want to be compensated for the damage to my computer.
