Windows 10 rollback stuck

A client of mine has a Windows 10 desktop she bought a couple of years ago. Last week a user (we think her grandson) tried to rollback to a previous version of Windows. But, since Windows 10 is the original OS on the computer, it's stuck. Asks for keyboard language, then gives options to run Windows rollback or Windows 10. When you choose, it reboots and goes right back to the keyboard options. How can I get past this and fix the issue?

Hi Andrea,

Corrupted system files after trying to rollback are one of the possible reasons why this issue is happening. Usually, restarting the computer should resolve the issue.

If the issue still persists even after restarting your computer, we recommend repairing Windows thru Advanced options. Follow the steps below:

  1. Press F8 while booting your computer to access System Recovery options.
  2. Click Troubleshoot.
  3. Select Command Prompt.
  4. Enter the following commands below, then press Enter after each command:
    • chkdsk c: /f
    • bootrec /fixmbr
    • bootrec /fixboot
    • bootrec /rebuildbcd
    • bcdboot c:\windows /s c:
  5. Once done with the above commands, restart your computer and see if the problem is fixed.

    i’m having the exact same problem with my laptop, i’m stuck in the endless keyboard layout screen loop, ive tried all the suggestions in this thread and nothing works. please someone help me, i need my laptop for work it’s my only means of income and i cant afford a new one, i have very important files on it that i would not be able to get back

    are you sure?  it's not a big blue box - it's just a bit of text at the bottom that when you put your cursor over it you can click it.

    Hi, you have to put the media creation tool on a Flash Drive (or CD/DVD as someone else posted).  Downloading it to your old PC isn't any help I think.  Get a USB flash or DVD and have another go.

    Hi, yes it has done the same to me.  I haven't braved it yet.  I also read about Avast - as it's easy to reinstall I would definitely give that a go. Also someone pointed out that my laptop may have gone to sleep on powersave mode part way through the original update so I have reset the powersave settings to stay on all the time when plugged in and I'm going to brave doing an update again Friday night when I have the weekend to unravel any issues.  Good luck (to us both)
