Fall Creators Update Resulting in High CPU Use By Service Host

Hi,

After updating to the new version, I am seeing high CPU use from two processes:

Any ideas on how to make them not use a lot of CPU so that my laptop cools down and the fan stops blowing?

Hi all, 

Had the same problem myself and found the solution which is quite simple :

Go to settings -> update & security -> Windows Defender -> Open Windows Defender -> Firewall & Network protection

Then you need to disable the firewall for all the types of networks

once that's done click on restore settings

That should do the trick and you're cpu usage should return to normal.

    Hi,

    There are several reasons why your PC shows a high CPU usage. In some cases, it can be due to a Windows update stuck when downloading an update or a Windows service that causes the Service Host to consume more CPU usage than normal. For initial troubleshooting, we recommend running the System File Checker followed by DISM (Microsoft Windows Deployment Image Servicing and Management) to diagnose and repair damaged system files that may have caused the issue.

    Tried a bunch of stuff and eventually fixed it.  Two observations: 1) this happened right after the fall creators update and 2) terminating the process in the task manager - which triggered a BSOD - actually fixed it

    When it rebooted after BSOD - all better.  Resetting networking, removing all network adapters, etc. did not fix it.  Seems to be related to internet connection sharing - I have used a CLI bat script to configure WiFi hotspot in the past - perhaps something about the new update did not like the settings that script created.

    In any case - fixed now!  No more CPU fan blowing so I am happy :-)

    Didn't work for me. I got the BSOD but the process keeps coming back.

    Hi!

    I followed your suggestions, but I didn't manage to fix the problem.

    However I noticed that when I kill the ICS task the other processes stop too, fixing the problem. The issue with this solution is that after a few minutes ICS restarts and the problem comes back.

    Is there anything else I can do?

    EDIT: I disabled ICS services from services.msc and it seems to have fixed it. However, I don't know if disabiling ICS may cause some other kind of problem
