Fall Creators Update Resulting in High CPU Use By Service Host

Hi,

After updating to the new version, I am seeing high CPU use from two processes:

Any ideas on how to make them not use a lot of CPU so that my laptop cools down and the fan stops blowing?

Hi all, 

Had the same problem myself and found the solution which is quite simple :

Go to settings -> update & security -> Windows Defender -> Open Windows Defender -> Firewall & Network protection

Then you need to disable the firewall for all the types of networks

once that's done click on restore settings

That should do the trick and you're cpu usage should return to normal.

Hope it helps, it did for me.

    I too have this problem - uninstalled Hyper-V and it went away. But I need Hyper-V for doing development, so not sure what to do at this point.

    I used MSCONFIG to disable ICS.  Clicking on Apply caused the System Configuration App to Not Respond.  I had to forcefully close the app.  Going back in showed it disabled.  Rebooted and the ICS process still comes up.  I can close the process in Task Manager but it keeps coming back.  I do have Hyper-V enabled.  Does that need to be disabled too?

    I disabled the ICS service when this problem showed up a while ago - which got rid of the problem. 

    Unfortunately, I recently had to enable Hyper-V, and the problem reappeared.  Only this time it was impossible to disable the ICS service (or rather, you could disable it - but, on reboot, it would reset itself to "manual" and attempt to start, fail, and retry - causing the high CPU useage). 

    I've disabled Hyper-V for now (but will need it in the future, to run virtual machines/devices) and hope that M$ will fix this issue - or advise what configuration error is causing it - so we can all get back to doing our day jobs (rather than beta testing their OS).
