Fall Creators Update Resulting in High CPU Use By Service Host

Hi,

After updating to the new version, I am seeing high CPU use from two processes:

Any ideas on how to make them not use a lot of CPU so that my laptop cools down and the fan stops blowing?

Hi all, 

Had the same problem myself and found the solution which is quite simple :

Go to settings -> update & security -> Windows Defender -> Open Windows Defender -> Firewall & Network protection

Then you need to disable the firewall for all the types of networks

once that's done click on restore settings

That should do the trick and you're cpu usage should return to normal.

    Thanks Jean-Baptiste!  That fixed it for me.  I think I'd tried that before - but I only turned it off for one type of network (I assumed, wrongly, that it would turn it off for all).  Turning it off for all three - and then resetting has fixed the issue.  Superb.

    I dont have a high CPU usage but a very high CPU temperature after updating to FCU.

    Before FCU my i7 6700K @ 4.5GHz @ 1.3 V had an idle temp of 30°C and in games a max temp of 75°C.

    Now after FCU update I have 60°C in idle (CPU usage 1% so the CPU is not stressed at all but is hot already) and in games the CPU easily reaches 90°C (even in games where the CPU is stressed only 40%). Already got several BSOD because of too high temps.

    Whats causing this?

    Open control panel ---> Change adaptor setting ----> disable any LAN/ethernet connection ----> CPU returned to normal state. Worked for my Dell Inspiron. (I only use wifi so left only wireless adaptor on)
