Fall Creators Update Resulting in High CPU Use By Service Host

Hi!

I followed your suggestions, but I didn't manage to fix the problem.

However I noticed that when I kill the ICS task the other processes stop too, fixing the problem. The issue with this solution is that after a few minutes ICS restarts and the problem comes back.

Is there anything else I can do?

EDIT: I disabled ICS services from services.msc and it seems to have fixed it. However, I don't know if disabiling ICS may cause some other kind of problem

For me "Internet Connection Sharing" was stuck in a starting mode. I don't use it so I went to services -> internet connection sharing -> properties -> disable so it doesn't start automatically -> accept and then reboot. 

All is now quiet again. Internet connection sharing is something very few people need so its usually ok to disable it,

The only problem with this fix, is if the PC reboots; the problem reappears, ICS does NOT stay disabled.  for whatever reason it comes back on and the CPU goes back to racing at 30% to 60%... so partial fix only.

I hope Microsoft will fix soon...

Sure do hope they get it fixed too.  I can see no changes with the Fall Creators Update which are useful for me, yet here we are again, trying to find workarounds for Microsoft's errors.

I saw the problem return after restarting when I just killed/stopped the task using the Task Manager, but once I stopped/disabled the ICS service (via Windows Administrative Tools/Services), ICS has not run again.  I'll try to attach a screen capture with the Services status tab (via msconfig - System Configuration) and Task Manager both showing.  I've restarted my computer five or six times (mostly testing this fix) and ICS still shows that it was disabled on 10/20/2017 at 4:37PM.  Just did another restart prior to replying and it's still fine. 

I may just be lucky though, the problem never occurred in the first place on my wife's Dell desktop sitting a few feet to my right.  This one is 64-bit Windows 10 Home and her's is 32-bit Windows 10 Home.  My laptop is 32-bit Windows 10 Professional if any of that makes any difference.

EDIT:  Checked and the ICS service was NOT running on either the laptop PC or my wife's computer although I hadn't stopped it on either one after the Fall Creator's Update - guess that was the reason that neither of those computers had the high CPU usage problem.

Using MSCONFIG (or search for the SERVICES utility) to get to the Services list and then stopping Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) has worked for me nicely.  It now shows as "disabled".  I did that about three days ago and computer has been fine since.  I had the same scenario as pictured in the graphic at the top of this thread, except those out of control services was running about 14-15% rather than the 31% shown by the original poster.  Quiescent CPU usage is now 0-1% like it was before the Fall Creators Update.

I'm assuming that Microsoft will eventually get around to correcting whatever mistake that they made and I'll be able to put ICS back on its normal startup mode (automatic, I believe).  Also saw where there is a method to disable network sharing via the "Network and Sharing Center" page on Control Panel.  I have not tried this yet since just stopping the ICS Service worked so well for me:

My two other computers, phones, televisions, receiver/amplifier, etc get their Internet connection directly from my main router either by Ethernet or WiFi so I really don't need the ICS via my main computer at all.

By the way, I applied the Fall Creators Update to this computer, my wife's desktop computer and a notebook computer and this one is the only one of the three which had the high CPU usage problem
