Hi:

I have periodic explorer crashes on my Surface Pro 2017, Win Pro x64 (it is fully updated). The crash seems to occur periodically after a Hello Windows log-in (this occurs after the computer was sleeping rather than on a fresh boot). It seems to involve Windows.UI.XamlHost.dll based on the below.

When I look in the Event viewer I see errors like this:

Event ID 1000

Faulting application name: explorer.exe, version: 10.0.16299.125, time stamp: 0xfeba44fb

    Thanks auggy!

I am installing now though pretty sure this is not going to do it: we tried updating the Intel driver (to 15.60) a few weeks back. Of course I will be keep reporting back, and again I appreciate all of your patience I really do appreciate it.

There is a reference to the igd10iumd64.dll in the latest crash:

*** ERROR: Symbol file could not be found.  Defaulted to export symbols for sppc.dll -

*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for igd10iumd64.dll

*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for igd10iumd64.dll

    GetUrlPageData2 (WinHttp) failed: 12002.

    Probably caused by : Windows.UI.XamlHost.dll ( Windows_UI_XamlHost!wil::details::ReportFailure+e5 )

As the igd10iumd64.dll is a component of the Intel graphics driver try updating to the latest Intel graphics driver available  from Intel:

Another crash (and short extract that I could generate at the bottom of this post):

    https://1drv.ms/u/s!AoMjGh2ERllBcVpsHyzkDy4jlQo

    (1) Do the exception codes tell us anything?

    (2) Edge

Let me mention again that Edge Browser is completely unresponsive after this happens and must be closed via the Task Manager. So whether this is the cause or the effect, there is something which is interacting with the Edge Browser associated with this crash.

At this point I have a very updated Surface with very little in the way of apps on it. I am rather amazed at how bad this device is.

7-Zip is a very good program and one that I would recommend so I would say stay with that one.

    Thanks auggy.

I am starting with the 7-zip (I have experienced crashes when dropping files into it). I have uninstalled and the installed the current version (18.01, 64 bit version, http://www.7-zip.org/a/7z1801-x64.exe) as you suggested. It seems odd that an open source program would be the source of the problem! I really dislike the windows zip program and had problems when I was using winzip earlier. Is there another program people use?
