Windows 10 Upgrade an ASUS Laptop (32G storage)

How did your XP install go? 

I have the disks for Windows 7 Home Premium version and I want to try that. 

Has anyone else given up with Windows 10 on the ASUS notebooks and reverted to a previous version of Windows that worked?  

I never liked being forced to upgrade to Windows 10 and reading all these threads (like the one above from Andy Davies) now makes me wonder if I will lose my little Notebook altogether if I actually get the version 1607 to install.......

I have the same problem with an E402S Asus laptop.  It wants 8 gig on the C drive, whatever I do.

Mine has another nice feature now on top of it... it connects to the access point or router with a  cable but blocks 95% of all web sites or doesn't provide internet at all.  When I went on vacation this week, there was no internet connection at all !!!  it worked maybe for 10 minutes the first time and went in internet boycot forgood "connected, no internet".  I once fixed the problem 2 months ago after 12 sleepless nights but I forgot how I did it back then.

This seems to be a bug in the old win 10 that I can't update, haha :-)

It reminds me all of the 'out of memory error' in DOS, yes that's how old I am.  People never learn.

I bought this little thing because I use a web drive and don't need disk space AT ALL.  Only an internet connection.  I even put an extra 250 gig SSD in there just in case I want to look at and store pictures from an SD card. 

Now there's not enough disk space for the operating system itself.  Why does it need 21 gig anyway?  What does it do other then to start up an app and show something on the screen!?  Even my cheap android phone is better at it!

Anyway, I would very much like to downgrade it now to win7.  But how to do that and do I have to pay for a license now?  That would be great :-)

I just wanted to say thank you to you all for going before me with this nightmare.

I couldn't believe it when I google "I cannot update windows 10 on my ASUS notebook" and found all these people with the same problem (plus a few other sites too)

I bought my T100 Transformer Notebook back in December 2013 because it was compact and could still run Office for when I travelled.  Like the rest of you I was "forced" to upgrade to Windows 10 in the end and now I am getting the same Windows 10 Update Assistant message every time I login.

I know it is probably time to upgrade this Notebook but whilst it still works I don't want to.  I would much prefer to downgrade the Operating system to Win 7 (which I did on another Dell laptop that I bought secondhand)

I am posting here now not because I have a solution to all your problems but to share your pain and because I am hoping that over the next few weeks a miracle happens and someone tells me how to bypass update 1709 and be able to get the NEXT bug free Windows 10 update without having to do a complete reinstall.

I had the same problem. In the end I compressed the drive and cleaned up system files via Disk Cleanup. That cleaned up enough space.

Thanks for your help. I'm one of the lucky ones that did actually manage to update (with a auror to your suggestion). The laptop now had the latest version of Windows 10, unfortunately, our problem now is that the laptop is so unstable following the update that it's practically unuseable. The update has left it with so little space on the disk that it frequently crashes to blue screen while being used, and that's after the internal disk was completely formatted and a clean install. We have an additional 64GB card installed (which has a drive letter and we can copy files to/from it) bit it doesn't seem to help the system. There's a chance the blue screen could be driver issue but the error message says it's out of disk space (although that could be a red herring).

I've been busy lately so I've not had time to look at it, but I'm going to try an older version of Windows, to see if that works better.
