Update: After another machine's USB keyboard/mouse stopped working I uninstalled KB4074588, rebooted, and the system was working normally.

A recent update (we think KB4074588) has started causing major issues with USB keyboard/mice attached to systems. We have a number of X1Cs and SP4s that recently received this update and are now not able to use USB KBs/mice; the system devices work fine. If we restore the system state we get a BSOD unless the "Disable Driver Signing" option is enabled.
This isn't affecting all PCs with this update, but is raising some concerns on whether there is a bug in the patch. Has anyone else noticed this issue?

2018-02-23T17:32:52+00:00 Hit the same problem this morning. Fortunately I have an old PS/2 keyboard that I was able to use to make the system somewhat functional. I spent several hours trying to uninstall and reinstall drivers with no success. I did verify that the USB ports were working by plugging flash drives into them. Finally ran across some posts which indicted patch KB4074588. I uninstalled the patch and everything is working again. My machine is a custom build:
Intel i5-8600K processor
MSI Z370 PC Pro motherboard
Samsung 960EVO M.2 NVMe boot drive

For those that are not as technically savvy, I have found something that worked for me. I was using a wired Dell keyboard which no longer worked. Also I was using a Microsoft wireless mouse - 3500. The mouse worked, but the keyboard no longer did. To sign into the computer I had to enable the onscreen keyboard and then use the tablet mode to use my desktop. I happened to have a Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse set - 5000. I decided to try it. Well lo and behold both the mouse works and even stranger the wired Dell keyboard works too. I didn't unplug it, since it was in a USB port in back of the computer that was hard to get to. So now I am using the wired Dell keyboard and the wireless 5000 mouse from the set. I like using a wireless mouse, but prefer a wired keyboard to save on batteries. Hope this helps until Microsoft fixes this issue. I had no idea how to fix the issue as described by some of the more knowledgeable people.
