Recent update causing USB mouse/keyboards to stop working

This worked for me as well, however, I was only able to defer the update from reinstalling. Is there either a way to disable this update from reinstalling itself? 

Or even better, if there is a patch in the works to resolve the problem with this update?

I had the same issue on 2 Dell Optiplexes this morning that applied this update and it disabled the Dell keyboard and mouse.  I tried going into the driver properties and applying a roll back and this was greyed out! I then tried uninstalling the KB4074588 update and that failed whilst applying the changes after the initial re-boot and it reverted back to it being installed.  It did however put back the keyboard & mouse so it sort of fixed it but I would like to block this update until someone at MS a) Tests the updates before they send them out and b) comes up with a version that doesn't brick my PCs.  I have now had 4 machines that have fallen foul of this and the previous January update.  3 of those machines failed to boot after performing system restores and I had to do PC Resets meaning all software had to be installed and the machines reconfigured.

This is really becoming unacceptable. The amount of down time caused by these updates is just not worth it.  I am seriously considering putting all the machines back to Windows 7 to avoid this stupidity!!

Add me to the growing list.  I appreciate the KB tip as I was just about to go there next.  My illuminated Logitech K710 keyboard worked fine if I went into the BIOS, but as soon as Windows started it went dark and didn't work after that update.  My Razer mouse, and USB drives did continue to work.  Plugged in another USB keyboard and it didn't work.  Fortunately my PC has a PS/2 port so I scrounged up an old keyboard and was able to login to uninstall the KB4074588 mentioned.  Until Microsoft fixes the problem I expect I'll have to continue to uninstall that update so I'm just leaving my PS/2 keyboard attached in addition to my Logitech keyboard so I know I can get into my system the next time that KB is reinstalled to uninstall it again.  I don't know if it only affects certain hardware or motherboards, but it certainly affected mine.  I will hope Microsoft corrects this problem soon and if it affects a lot of people I'm sure they will.

Too technical for this user, please correct the software so that a USB wireless mouse works again.  Thank you.  MRB
