Before performing any upgrade you should do a new system restore points and where practical complete backup of your current system. 

(this is pain but necessary to ensure you are able to restore your system to its working condition in case of major incident and should really only be done after your tried all other steps to get your system working)

never rollback an update driver instead go to another computer if available type in your make and model of the computer mother board in use. check to see if there is any issue or problems with upgraded operating system and your mother board, graphics drivers both on board and external and or other software and if any new firmware and software is available.

Every motherboard has a basic integrated graphic driver chipset.

(note this is not the motherboard chipset for the BIOS memory flash they are different)

This allows both on board and external graphic cards to be used, and in some instance both at same time.

What must be done after any operating system upgrade is the on board driver chip must be elevated to see if manufacture has a firmware update they are usually around 5mbs to 23 mbs to ensure it is functional with the operating system in use

(integrated graphic firmware updates are very rare and usually not need in most cases).

Once you have sort the correct motherboard graphic firmware driver ensure it is the latest version and not a beta version and download it and apply it.

Now restart your computer and wait for the back ground services to configure the graphic firmware.

After this you will need now to locate the correct graphic driver itself this is not the firmware driver this is the end users graphic driver for the make and model your currently using i.e. NVidia, Asus, Gigabyte just to name a few.

These are not small updates they are in the range of 128 to 468 Mbs size when you open up the exe files then you should have two options express or customise.

express just copies over files that are newer leaving the current versions that are same in place this is why you sometimes do not get a version number change even though you have upgraded your drivers.

I use customise installed to ensure that I get the new version of the files which actually changes the version number unless your motherboard is on its way out.

This is not to say that occasional it goes pair shape as it does with any software install there is element of error that something will go wrong either due to incorrect programming code or interruptions or sometime incompatible or human intervention.

After any upgrade of software drivers is complete do system restore restart of the computer should be perform to allow the new driver to be configured and to ensure it is going to allow your system to start properly.

Once back to the desktop visual graphics and all your icons are load (allow 5 to 10 minutes for this to happen) then you can make adjustments to your system.

Once your happy make another system restore point and do a complete backup again never interrupt the back allow it to finish.

After this you should be right to carry on working.

That has nothing to do with this thread. It is totally unrelated. Please make a different post and then people can help you with that issue.

my understanding is your Wi-Fi on your wifes laptop is not functioning,

serval reasons for this.

1. Laptop has FN function for turning on and off the network 

2. airport feature is blocking the connection ensure it is turned off.
3. incorrect network drivers for the Wi-Fi itself
4. two windows 10 has conflict with the Wi-Fi drivers
5. Windows 10 need to be configured under settings then network & internet
6. Windows 10 need to be update first so you have the latest Wi-Fi drivers that's correctly operate. 

Its hard to say exactly what your issue is but if your got a second computer try this find out what make and model your laptop is then download the manual PDF for it and look for the section fn function key and start there.

After that if the issue continues type in google Wi-Fi laptop connection issue windows 10 and read through a few of the online forums.

Third if you have a network Ethernet cable directly connect that to your laptop and then to the modem ensure you use the cable that was supplies with the modem if possible.
