The windows 10 fall upgrade 1709 fails after about 45% mark.. Then gives an error message and returns system to 1703

I have tried all the suggestions on my laptop to complete the upgrade to fall creators 1709.

I have tried the trouble shoot the upgrade (It always fins registry errors after the update...  I run it a couple of times and the second time the registry errors are gone but come back after trying the 1709 update)

I have tried the upgrade by doing the manual update

I have tried resetting all of update... and then trying the update again

I have tried by unplugging the Ethernet cable

I have done a chkdsk c: /f

I have tried Regcure pro (as recommended by Microsoft on a support page - they are a Microsoft partner)

I have tried going back to earlier backups of the laptop..

All end in the same way...

The updates fail after 45% with a old style popup box .. saying windows can not configure one of the system components...

I have tried many options...  but no solution...

I have spent over 80 hours working on this issue...  I really do not want to do a full reinstall of the laptop....

Help!!!

    >> If it really is essential, then why are so many people having trouble getting it installed?

VERY GOOD Point. It's apparently SO essential that Microsoft has been rudely interrupting my computer activity for months with FAILED updates! You would think that if it was IMPORTANT that Microsoft would make it WORK properly! Sorry folks I am venting here after three more days of working on this ALL DAY and NIGHT with Microsoft and getting nowhere!  It's clear that if you want to get it done, you are going to have to figure it out for yourself. Small and Squishy are not able to help.

There are SO many ridiculous suggestions here! WHY oh WHY doesn;t hte installation procedure INCLUDE all thes ething sthat might ACTUALLY allow 1709 to install???

I am extremely annoyed with Microsoft. My computer has been trying to update and failing for months. Each time it takes many hours. Microsoft Phone support have nbeen no use either. All they did was goive me an .ISO file that ALSO does not install properly. Fails after 45% just like everyone else here. I see so many stupid suggestions.

I am going to give this another try with my USB WIFI adapter pulled out.  I will disable all antivirus / maintenance programs too and see if that helps. That is the ONLY message I have read here with something that someone did that succeeded, so Microsoft Support, you guys NEED to stop wasting our time and get on the ball with these solutions!!

I am VERY close to jumping ship and buying a bloody Apple Mac even though I dislike them!

I have spent countless hours on this trash operating system!!

The only solution that worked for me was to reinstall Windows 10...  My laptop has worked well since then...  The update took some time.. but in the end was far faster than all the alternatives (and some of the suggestions would have made my unit unstable going forward)

Millions of people have this same problem. I am FED UP woith Microsoft ad their trashware operating system that has wasted COUNTLESS hours of my personal and business time. So many LAST DITCH attempts to save my computer and my valuable data, softwares and settings. Still trying after MANY MONTHS, and MANY PHONE CALLS to Microsoft.

I also went through all those steps and more.. in the end.. I rebuilt my system...  and that worked....  I suspect that is the path for you now..
