The windows 10 fall upgrade 1709 fails after about 45% mark.. Then gives an error message and returns system to 1703

I have tried all the suggestions on my laptop to complete the upgrade to fall creators 1709.

I have tried the trouble shoot the upgrade (It always fins registry errors after the update...  I run it a couple of times and the second time the registry errors are gone but come back after trying the 1709 update)

I have tried the upgrade by doing the manual update

I have tried resetting all of update... and then trying the update again

I have tried by unplugging the Ethernet cable

I have done a chkdsk c: /f

I have tried Regcure pro (as recommended by Microsoft on a support page - they are a Microsoft partner)

I have tried going back to earlier backups of the laptop..

All end in the same way...

The updates fail after 45% with a old style popup box .. saying windows can not configure one of the system components...

I have tried many options...  but no solution...

I have spent over 80 hours working on this issue...  I really do not want to do a full reinstall of the laptop....

Help!!!

There are SO many ridiculous suggestions here! WHY oh WHY doesn;t hte installation procedure INCLUDE all thes ething sthat might ACTUALLY allow 1709 to install???

I am extremely annoyed with Microsoft. My computer has been trying to update and failing for months. Each time it takes many hours. Microsoft Phone support have nbeen no use either. All they did was goive me an .ISO file that ALSO does not install properly. Fails after 45% just like everyone else here. I see so many stupid suggestions.

I am going to give this another try with my USB WIFI adapter pulled out.  I will disable all antivirus / maintenance programs too and see if that helps. That is the ONLY message I have read here with something that someone did that succeeded, so Microsoft Support, you guys NEED to stop wasting our time and get on the ball with these solutions!!

I am VERY close to jumping ship and buying a bloody Apple Mac even though I dislike them!

I have spent countless hours on this trash operating system!!

GIVE THIS A TRY AS THIS FIXED THE PROBLEM FOR ME - I deleted the Broadcom entries in the registry and the 1709 update proceeded with no hitches.

I've been trying to get this update to install since November or so.

I've done almost everything suggested on this and other sites. I've run the troubleshooter tool, I've downloaded and attempted to install from a clean boot, I've run the sfc and dsim solutions.    I've deleted the SoftwareDistribution folder and let it recreate itself.  A couple of updates installed, but NOT this one.

Is 1709 really essential to getting any of the other security updates?  As near as I can tell, it's just some 3D paint program and a few other bells and whistles.  If it really is essential, then why are so many people having trouble getting it installed?

I also went through all those steps and more.. in the end.. I rebuilt my system...  and that worked....  I suspect that is the path for you now..
