It's simple.
Open Task Manager and scroll to the bottom.
Right click Windows Explorer and then Restart.
Problem solved.
This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
since I installed the latest updates to windows 10, the volume icon in system tray no longer works.
The icon IS there in the system tray
hovering over the icon shows the volume level
HOWEVER, when I left click OR right click on the icon, NOTHING happens---it will not open so that I can adjust the volume level
Why do the Windows10 updates do more harm than good?
I routinely keep sound levels low until I want to listen to something---now 1 PC (Win10 home) is stuck on volume 20% and laptop ( Win10 Pro) stuck on volume 63%
How can I fix this?
THANKS

this is not the issue
the sound plays fine
IT IS THE system tray ICON for the sound volume which does not work any more......it will not open the sound level to adjust.
I used to click on this icon, the slide bar would come up to adjust sound level
since the Windows 10 updates were installed, the slide bar no longer comes up
the icon does not respond to a click----it is useless
I cannot adjust my volume on PC
thanks
This was the same issue I faced.
Now it is solved. Watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XyA\_6MYxOM
I'm sorry, but I have to say that this has already been stated numerous times without having to endure the video. It's only a temporary fix for a lot of folks as the problem recurs. Having vented all that, and now that it's a few updates since the original post, I, for one, no longer have the problem, and wish the same for others. Happy New Year!
Ditto to that!!!!
Thank you for this solution! My icon was there, just didn't function. When I restarted windows explorer, the function came back.
I hate that I will have to always regain control of my volume in this way. My workaround was to add sndvol.exe shortcut to my taskbar to adjust my volume.
I hope that one day (Right Now Would Be Nice!) that Microsoft will fix this issue!
Thank you.
