Windows 10 apps won't open fully on first try - have to close and reopen for them to work

Windows Apps such as the Windows Store, Calculator app, Skype app, and Mail app usually do not open fully on the first try. The app window will show up, but the functions are not available. I will only see the logo of the app in the center of the solid theme color.

However, if I close the window and reopen the app, it will work fine.

Does anyone know how to fix this so that an app will open normally the first time?

(I have attached a picture of the Calculator app to demonstrate the problem.)

    Hi,

    If you've tried all the solutions posted in this thread, our option now it to uninstall and reinstall Windows apps using Powershell. For the complete steps and command line for Windows apps reinstallation, see the post of Meliton Dec on this thread (third step).

    Let us know how it went after troubleshooting.

    Why is there still no light on this, ridiculous.  I changed to never sleep on power (a few weeks ago) and the same symptoms persist.  So frustrating - Not to mention that this setting is far from energy efficient.  Something is broken in the execution or doesn't run at elevated permissions.

    the issue i posted does not correct itself by applying changes to power settings. my computer is set to custom power hog.

    I know this sounds strange, but this issue seems tied to the screen being turned off after a period of time.  I went to settings, searched for power & sleep, and set "when plugged in turn off after" to Never.  I have left my PC to sit for hours several times, and these apps are now launching as they should.  I have no idea why that would cause the issue.  

    Microsoft - can you explain how/why this would happen?

    Hello,

    I am experiencing the same problem on my ThinkPad T450 with Win 10 Pro 64bit, version 1709 (16299.248). Almost all native applications like Weather, Mail, Settings are behaving like described.

    Restarting my computer will help it for few hours, but problem occurs again and again.

    II thought that reinstalling OS will help, but apparently not. I am also using clean version of OS without any Lenovo or other bloatware. It won't be HW resources problem either, because I am running SSD and 16GB DDR3 RAM.

    Is there any (new) way to fix it?
