Thanks for the feedback. My first thought was that maybe an update reverted the settings to the power plans, or something in the system did something to undo the customisation. However if the problem didnt seem as bad as before, then it could have been
another issue.
It could have also been temporary and a fluke that the problem appeared fixed after creating a power plan a second time. I am running the spring update as an insider and everything is still working fine.
I like to run the following maintenance steps each month.
- Open command prompt as administrator.
TYPE: sfc /scannow
The above will scan and attempt to fix corrupt windows files.
- Defragment your hard drive.
- In command prompt as an administrator..
TYPE: chkdsk /r.
A message will ask you if you want to run the operation on next startup, type 'y'.
This last step will take some time and will will not be able to use the PC in the process but will check and attempt to fix and repair bad sectors in the hard drive.
A combination of these things had my laptop running like a brand new machine with no problems since.
