Windows phone discontinued?

Surface Phone??  Haven't heard of that before.  Maybe there's hope?

There has been a lot of discussion around a potential new device from Microsoft.

Whether or not it comes to fruition is anyone's guess but the Surface Andromeda would feature a hinged screen that opened out to be a tablet, but it also would close up into a smartphone form factor.

It may not be that they want to take the risk at this point in time but it is worth waiting (and hoping) that they will continue to move forward. The biggest thing to me is that Microsoft has been incredibly pleased with the success of the Surface line and having a foldable tablet that can be used as a phone has a lot of folks very interested.

There are quite a few articles out there that are worth looking at.

The thought of this device excites a lot of folks and although it may not come I'm not ready to give up on it yet. I expect that it will come someday it is just a question of when. As far as I can tell, the biggest issue is software and getting developers on the band wagon. 

I'm ready for a new device but am willing to put if off as long as I can just in case....

I don't need to search anything, I've read them all. If and when an Andromeda device ever comes, it will NOT be a phone. It will be a pocket PC which you may be able to make calls with. There is no clarity whatsoever on what chipset it will be based on, whether there will be legacy support at all, whether it will be able to run Win32 apps natively, through an emulator or at all. PWAs are still lacking badly. There is no clarity even on the size of it and I definitely do not consider two 7" screens as "pocketable", never mind a "smartphone form factor".

Given that an online petition supporting the release of an Andromeda device (although nobody seems to know what it actually is - a bit like Brexit) seems to be struggling to reach even 15K signatures after a week, I seriously doubt there is a business case for it (or, as you say, "a lot of folks are very interested") - and ultimately that will be the critical decider, no matter how sexy and cool the concept is in artist's renders and how loud the small number of fanatical winphans are.

There was already a dual screen Android device released last year (the ZTE Axon M) and it got nowhere, even with the benefit of full OS and app support (Android apps automatically scale to the screen size used, so no need to faff around with UWPs and PWAs)

You are in for a very very long wait if you want a Surface Phone. It's been rumoured since 2015 and look where we are now.

Oh, the Surface line - still making losses on every single product, so I seriously doubt Microsoft are pleased at all about it.
