Windows phone discontinued?

You don't need to use Google everything, but it's just easier on Android. You'll have to try and see for yourself what suits you better. I switched 3 years ago and haven't looked back. I do not miss anything from Windows Mobile, not a one single app or functionality. I cannot imagine using a Windows phone today.

I did try to use the Microsoft apps a while back, but the Google system is just easier. 

Question:  If a person buys an Android phone, is it absolutely necessary to use Google everything?  Browser, email, contacts, etc.?  I don't trust Google at all.  I've seen that Microsoft is pushing Edge browser to Android & Apple.

I used windows phones for four years, with a 1020 and a 640XL, and a 535 used by my wife.

I recently changed to an Android phone running the 8.1 version. I wouldn't go back, but Android is good - not great.

I still wanted to use Outlook for mail calendar and contacts, and OneDrive for photo backup and cloud storage. Google has made that difficult and defaults to Gmail, G drive and G Photos. It took a lot of digging to find settings to make Outlook.com my primary mail client, and to synchronise contacts. However, perhaps as i have over 2000 contacts, the windows phone wasn't synchronising contacts with my desktop anyway.

I had reached the point where the slowness, glitches, breakdowns, and limited apps of the windows phones just made their Microsoft system and applications compatibility advantages pointless.

Microsoft has developed a lot of apps for the Android platform, including office software and a shell for the OS. It looks to me as though Microsoft has now decided to put its money into developing solutions for the Android platform.

So seriously, there should be a Microsoft site thread to assist windows phone users changing to Android.

Reading this thread, i am astonished to read how some are trying to cling to Windows Mobile. Its dead. No other company is going to build hardware for a system even Microsoft has said is dead. 

Why are you staying with a company that doesn't care about customers as much as Microsoft doesnt care about you? 

Five years ago, i was the biggest Microsoft supporter! Had everything you can imagine from them. Zune. RT Surface. Band. Phone(s). Loving Windows 8. Then a change in CEOs. RT-dead. Band-dead. Windows 8 replaced with the mess that is Windows 10. Finally, mobile-dead. Next thing to go will be XBox. Microsoft simply isn't a consumer based company. Its all enterprise.

I'm used to it, glitches & all.  Besides, my desktop runs Windows 10 Home, mobile runs Windows 10 Mobile.  I like it that they look, & work kind of the same.
