This error appeared on my Lumia 1020 and Lumia 630 on the same day. I open the messenger app and it just sits in a "waiting for network" state.
It goes without saying that I haven't changed anything on the phones, and it is a huge coincidence if this happened to two phones at the same time.
Facebook have not helped. Anybody else seen this error and do you have a fix?

I upgraded my phone to WIN 10 and after that, there was avaiable a new version of facebook and messenger for WIN 10 on store and it works perfectly. So people, upgrade your phones then download the W10 versions of apps from store and enjoy your phone 🙂
What if anyone uses Nokia Lumia 720 like me, this phone cannot be upgraded to win 10. What is the solution for this?
For all facing this issue:
Use the web services on the facebook website or buy a new phone with an OS that is supported.

when i upgrade win 10 then my very slowly working and bettery fast end, and handset very hot.....
I don't want to upgrade to win10 because it made my phone not working again. Even though I know the Windows Phone Recovery Tool, my mom wouldn't allow me to do that... It's there an alternative way for that???
