windows phone 8.1 facebook messenger "waiting for network error"

This error appeared on my Lumia 1020 and Lumia 630 on the same day. I open the messenger app and it just sits in a "waiting for network" state.

It goes without saying that I haven't changed anything on the phones, and it is a huge coincidence if this happened to two phones at the same time.

Facebook have not helped. Anybody else seen this error and do you have a fix?

I upgraded my phone to WIN 10 and after that, there was avaiable a new version of facebook and messenger for WIN 10 on store and it works perfectly. So people, upgrade your phones then download the W10 versions of apps from store and enjoy your phone 🙂

    I'll give you this from that mentioned link in 93tid's post:

    By the end of March, we will be ending support for messaging on the following older mobile app versions:

    Facebook for Windows Phone.

    Messenger for Windows Phone 8 and 8.1.

    Facebook for Windows 8 and 8.1 desktop app.

    Have the same problem. Cannot connect to network

    Nokia Lumia 930

    OS 8.10.14234.375

    removed and reinstalled Messenger and Facebook apps

    got this message as the only:

    But there is no new version, and it does not help to install the version from Store - and when i click the link it leads to an update of Facebook that cannot be installed. What can I do?

    This might have been a problem someone solved already, which is why I asked here. I also asked Facebook support, but I am not optimistic that they will help. 

    A work around is to login login via the browser to Facebook and use messenger from there. Not ideal but it works.

    GaborCzeller and all others,

    start complaining to Facebook, they made this decision not Microsoft.

    Microsoft can't help or do anything in this matter.
