windows phone 8.1 facebook messenger "waiting for network error"

This error appeared on my Lumia 1020 and Lumia 630 on the same day. I open the messenger app and it just sits in a "waiting for network" state.

It goes without saying that I haven't changed anything on the phones, and it is a huge coincidence if this happened to two phones at the same time.

Facebook have not helped. Anybody else seen this error and do you have a fix?

I upgraded my phone to WIN 10 and after that, there was avaiable a new version of facebook and messenger for WIN 10 on store and it works perfectly. So people, upgrade your phones then download the W10 versions of apps from store and enjoy your phone 🙂

    i am using Nokia Lumia 525. Lumia 525 not support OS 10, so what can i do now?? Would i sell my phone?? my current OS version 8.1(8.10.14219.341). I need emergency solution for messenger. I'm now totally stuck.

    My phone does not have the option to install windows 10 as of yet. I am using a Lumia 920. I have tried downloading the app over and over and nothin. Can you help?

    There is no way to help. The updated app works only on Windows 10 Mobile and there is no way to update a Lumia 920. You can either access your account via the web browser on facebook.com and message from there or get another phone which supports the Messenger app.
