Malicious Software Removal Tool in Win10 Home won't run

I am running Windows 10 Home 64bit. I used to run the Malicious Software Removal Tool, but, all of a sudden, it doesn't run any more.

I've downloaded the most up to date version available from the MS website.

I've tried running it as Admin as well.

But, the tool just doesn't run.

Any ideas, please?

Perhaps using Disk Cleanup >Cleanup System files >Temporary files would do it?

(The full (all drives) MRT scan is still running, so far it reports 8 files infected that the quick scan had not shown. This is the first time that I have manually run a MRT full scan, interested to see what and where these files are.)

    RikDatta, Richard,

    #3 Option

Can the MSRT be run in safe mode?   Enter Safe Mode then In the run box type mrt.  I'll give my results forth with.

    RikDatta, Richard,

Running MRT in safe mode is worth a try.  Mine was successful....but the function is not broken for me.

Try it RikDatta, but perform a Disk Cleanup first, as Richard suggested.

    RikData, Richard,

If problem remains unsolved, continue with SFC /scannow  then DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth   TO RULE OUT.

    As a point of interest:

As I previously reported that during the MRT full scan it was showing 8 files infected found, it then went up to 10 however when the scan completed it said that No malicious software was detected. I'm now wondering if the positives were just flags for potentials until the scan was completed?

I've got to run know, I'll check back in later.
