Malicious Software Removal Tool in Win10 Home won't run

I am running Windows 10 Home 64bit. I used to run the Malicious Software Removal Tool, but, all of a sudden, it doesn't run any more.

I've downloaded the most up to date version available from the MS website.

I've tried running it as Admin as well.

But, the tool just doesn't run.

Any ideas, please?

    RikDatta,

    Yes, as Richard stated, check your update history in Windows Update.....scroll to the bottom for "Other Updates" and determine how many times KB890830 was installed. 

    My update history shows it was installed twice on my OS with the identical KB #.  Does yours show installation three times or just two?

    The last update was this one:

    2017-05 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems (KB4020102)

    Successfully installed on Thu 01 06 2017

    When I check for updates, it says that my system is up to date.

    Ditto, I'm running a full scan right now. Auto update installed it on my PC on 5/22/17, perhaps installing it twice creates a conflict?

    RikDatta, check your update history at Settings >Update and security > Update history to check if the current release has already been downloaded, if it has do not download it again.

    Hi Wayne,

    If the tool downloads automatically, then where is it located?

    I can't find it.

    That's why I've been downloading it manually and then running it.

    And when it did used to work, I used to go through the same steps as you described.

    It's just that it doesn't run any more.

    When I type in MRT to the run box, a permission box appears asking whether I want to allow changes to be made.  I answer yes, and the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool May 2017 box opens, then I click Next and the Scan Type box opens, I chose quick scan, and then click next, and the scan commences.  No malicious results found.

    Do you keep restore points in Recovery?  The Windows Software Removal Tool downloads automatically on May 2017 Patch Tuesday updates and each subsequent month.  I'm curious, why you downloaded it again, when you already had it installed.  

    Perhaps it is worth trying to restore to a earlier point in time, if you keep manual and automatic restore points in Recovery.
