Malicious Software Removal Tool in Win10 Home won't run

I am running Windows 10 Home 64bit. I used to run the Malicious Software Removal Tool, but, all of a sudden, it doesn't run any more.

I've downloaded the most up to date version available from the MS website.

I've tried running it as Admin as well.

But, the tool just doesn't run.

Any ideas, please?

    That's most likely because it doesn't actually get installed, it resides in temp folders.

    I did read your post and I've already been to a page that explained all that.

    I did a fair bit of investigation, before asking for help here.

    And I appreciate all the help anyone is giving.

    Whilst the system may run the tool and then delete the relevant files:

    My question is how come I was running the tool before, and now it's not working at all.

    I've tried running 'MRT' and running it as an administrator.

    And the system replies (as I stated earlier) that the system admin has blocked this app.

    I looked as you suggested and KB890830 for May 2017 doesn't seem to appear in the list.

    Looks to me like you have May 2017 Software Removal Tool installed three times.  As I previously stated, my update history shows that May 2017 KB890830 installed automatically twice on two different dates.

    My suspicion is that it doesn't like being installed again three times.  This is conjecture though.  

    Possible solutions might be:

    1.  Restore to a earlier point in time in Recovery (should you have good fairly recent restore points).

    2.  Uninstall the latest of the three KB890830 for May 2017.  The uninstall option is at the top of your Update History.

    if you would have checked and read over the info at the link that I supplied in my first reply you would have seen this:

    "The Malicious Software Removal Tool does not use an installer. Typically, when you run the Malicious Software Removal Tool, it creates a randomly named temporary directory on the root drive of the computer. This directory contains several files, and it includes the Mrtstub.exe file. Most of the time, this folder is automatically deleted after the tool finishes running or after the next time that you start the computer. However, this folder may not always be automatically deleted. In these cases, you can manually delete this folder, and this has no adverse effect on the computer."
