Linx 1020 tablet will not work after Windows Update

Yesterday evening I updated my Linx 1020 tablet via Windows Update.  Three updates were downloaded and installed, which I have listed below. (N.B. for the benefit of Microsoft Support my Link 1020 came pre-installed with Windows 10 and is still under manufacturer's warranty)

1) Update for Windows Defender

2) Cumulative Update for Windows 10

3) Insyde Firmware update  (this required a restart)

After Windows downloaded and installed the updates I was required to restart so I opted to update and reboot.  My Linx 1020 shut down normally and the Linx logo display as it started to reboot.  However, after this point the screen remained black and no matter what I tried I could not start my tablet.  The orange power light also does not display when on mains power.  Prior to shut down my Linx 1020 was 97% charged and on mains power.

Since yesterday I have tried repeatedly to boot my Linx 1020 to no avail.  To all intents and purposes my Linx 1020 is dead and it is my belief that one or more of the Windows updates is responsible for this rather than a fault with my Linx 1020.  The most probable culprit is the Insyde Firmware update as this required the restart.

I have read on the LinxTablet.co.uk forum that other Linx tablet owners have experienced a similar issue after performing a Windows Update.

I am waiting for a reply from Exertis (Linx support) regarding this issue but as the evidence clearly points towards an issue with Windows Update I would be grateful for a response from Microsoft Support, setting out how Microsoft intends to help Linx owners resolve this issue.

To reiterate: my Linx 1020 tablet is dead and cannot boot due to a fault with Windows Update!!

Interesting.  Surely if the 1020 is still powering up with a faulty display then it would feel warm after a while if left powered up?

Both of the tablets I had that developed this fault remained cool to touch over a 24 hour period before I took them back to Argos.

I did try booting mine with a bootable USB stick that I created for my laptop.  I knew the USB would probably not install the mirror image I created for my laptop but I was hoping it would still bring up a boot menu of some sort.  I am afraid nothing happened.

I really wish somebody would provide an official update so we know what the problem is/was and when it is safe to install updates and upgrades.  My new 1020 is running Version 1511 which is a pre-Anniversary Update version of Windows 10.

Mine does get warm, when it's charging and whilst it's 'running'.

Over an hour since I turned it on and plugged the external HD into it it's quite warm and the external HD will drawer power from it if I wake it up.

All this time it's not been on charge.

Strange yours is doing that which does seem like it is your display that is at fault.  I must admit I didn't try plugging my external HD into either of the faulty 1020's.

Linx Support told me there was absolutely nothing I could do to power up or boot the replacement 1020 that developed the Windows Update fault.   I was advised to either ask for a refund from Argos or Linx were prepared to replace with a Linx 10v32.  I opted to stick with the 1020 because it has two USB ports and the 10v32 has one USB.

I have a similar issue after (or during) a Windows update.  My Linx 1020 is totally unresponsive - no charging light, blank screen, no interaction possible except the ability to power on/off.  It does remain warm when it is switched on but the only way to tell for sure is to connect it via USB to your PC.  On my PC it showed in device manager as "Cherrytrail."  I thought I might have been on to something here but under properties it says there are no compatible drivers.  None could be found online, even on the Intel site.  So, even though you can see it, you can't do anything with it.  If anyone has any ideas, let's hear them - please!  For reference the Linx contains an Intel Atom x5-Z8300.

A few guys on the Linx forum have reported the 1020 showing as a "Cherrytrail" in device manager when connected to another PC.

Ultimately, however, I know of no-one who has been able to fix a 1020 once it has been affected by the Windows Update issue.
