Xbox One Wireless controller keeps disconnecting

Hello.

I recently bought a Xbox One Wireless controller with the PC wireless adapter.

The problem is... after I logon into Windows 10 the controller connects fine ONE TIME, then, after turning it off and then turning it on again, the controller connects (light stay still) for about 1 or 2 seconds and then the controller turns off again, I even can use it in those 1 or 2 seconds, showing that it successfully connected, but then it disconnects. The problem is only solved after I logoff and login again into Windows (don't need to do a full reboot).

My wired Xbox 360 controller works like a charm. Why do the next gen controller of Microsoft doesn't work well with a system developed by the same company? When I google it, it's problems all around. And judging by the behavior, it's a driver problem, not hardware, cause if it was a defective unit a simple logoff-login wouldn't fix it (and lots of other people wouldn't have similar problems).

    Except Xbox 360 wireless controller adapter will reinstall itself almost immediately.

    I hit this problem today, I don't see this in any of the tips, but i suppose it could be hidden in all the questions.

     On a hunch i figured this could be the most likely thing turning off the adapter are the power-management settings. It seems i am right in my case, after doing this the adapter seems to stay on.

    A good thing to check if you run into this: Please go into your Device Manager\Network Adapter\Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows\Power Management (tab). Un-check all the power management features (namely in my case Allow Computer to run off the device to save power). Note this could impact the life of your adapter since it will run more, but it seems quite useless in a state that when you are gaming it disconnects to save power.

    Note to Microsoft\Xbox: given you manufacture the controller, and the operating system it might be a good idea to investigate this issue so that you don't drive customers way :) Pun intended.

    The steam shut down was my fix. 

    Here's the catch: I don't want to shut down steam every time I turn on my controller.

    So I looked in the steam settings.  I would have thought that unchecking all Big Picture Mode settings and trying to disable it would have helped, but I actually needed to enable the Xbox Controller box. 

    This, I presume, let's steam do it's thing "fully".  I really wish I could just completely disable steam's software from getting in the way, but we can't and likely won't; it's been over a year.

    That was exactly my cause too, I put it in my original post that I deleted the hidden xbox360 adaptor from device manager and hey presto!
