Vista will no longer automatically update. Nothing I've attempted works to fix the issue.

The Update Client is inappropriate for processing these one automatically. They need to be installed manually for Windows Update to work. The Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer only applies if IE9 is installed.

If Office is installed, all recent applicable Security Updates for it need to be installed manually.

As far as Office 2007 is concerned, preinstalling KB3128019, KB3128022, KB3128024 and KB3128025 has been tested to suffice.

Set automatic updates to "Never check for updates" and reboot prior to manual installation.

    VZ,

Thanks!  Don't know how you all figure out these obscure workarounds, but my backup computer is now updated for another month.

    Best,

    PD
