Announcing: Homeschool pilot program for Office 365 Education

Hi everyone,

My name is Mike Tholfsen, and I am a Principal Program Manager for Office 365 Education, here to talk about a special offer for all homeschoolers today.

On November 14, 2016, we started a pilot program to make Office 365 Education available to homeschoolers across the United States. This is a limited-time pilot to help us collect feedback and learn more on how key education tools like Class Notebook, Forms, and Microsoft Classroom can work better and empower home educators and homeschoolers in the comfort of their own home.

Due to overwhelming demand of the pilot, we have already fillled up our inital set of spots. We are trying to open up a few more in the coming weeks, but for now the pilot is closed.

If you’re already trying out the pilot and need help, we’ll be answering your questions right here, so please read on and post your inquires below.

How do I apply for the program?

Hi, Jason -

It's great to have you in the pilot. I work on the Minecraft Education team and I'm happy to share that we do offer a limited free trial of Minecraft: Education Edition. Once you download the game, you'll have 25 logins (as an educator) and your students will each have 10 logins before paid licenses will be required to continue playing.

Hi Jason,

Thanks for posting in this thread.

Based on your description, I understand you’ve already signed up for the Homeschool pilot program and just want to confirm if it’s possible to do a trial lesson in Minecraft for education to see how it works. Based on my research, the answer is no. The reason is that after rolling out Minecraft: Education Edition which is charged for $5 per users per year, only educators who were formerly using Minecraft can still use the early access version at no cost. Your understanding will be highly appreciated.
