Hello users of Microsoft’s ‘3D Scan’ app!

We wanted to inform you that starting this weekend we will be launching a new version of our 3D Scan app (version 2.0.46.0) and people that have the app installed will see the update show up on their computers soon thereafter.

**IMPORTANT**

The new version of the app requires a new Kinect (for Xbox One) driver to work with your computer and will not be able to scan without it. Additionally the old version of the app will not scan with the new driver. (You can read more about the exciting new Kinect driver announcement here)

The new Kinect driver must also be installed manually. To install the new driver follow the steps below:

  1. In Cortana type ‘Device Manager’ and hit enter
  2. Find ‘Kinect sensor devices’ in the list
  3. Expand everything under ‘Kinect sensor devices’ (this should expose ‘WDF KinectSensor Interface 0’)
  4. Right click on ‘WDF KinectSensor Interface 0’ and select ‘Update driver’
  5. There should be a popup window that asks “How do you want to search for drivers?”
    1. Choose “Search automatically for updated driver software”
  6. Assuming all goes well, you should have just installed the new driver. Right clicking on ‘WDF KinectSensor Interface 0’ again and selecting ‘Properties’ should show you that you have driver version ‘2.2.1610.17001’ or greater
  7. If all does not go well and you did not get the new updated driver with the version listed above, remember that the driver takes time to filter through our backend system and be visible to all locations around the globe. If this happens, please be patient and try the same steps listed above at a later time.

For any issues regarding installing the new Kinect driver please let us know by commenting below.

If you have any feedback for, or issues with, the new 3D Scan app please leave your comments in the Feedback hub (Category: ‘Hardware, Devices, and Drivers’, Subcategory: ‘3D Scan’)

Thanks!

    @Bernhard,

It sounds like you might have the old Kinect driver installed. I would suggest unplugging your Kinect, uninstalling the Kinect SDK along with your current the Kinect driver. Then reboot, plug in the Kinect again and wait for the latest driver to install. After all of this check back to the original post of this thread to make sure your Kinect Driver version matches what is on your computer.

Let me know if that works.

I had 2.2 driver intalled by default when in installed new windows. Unfortunaltellly, today after installing SDK it is stuck on 2.0 (2014) Driver i tried updating it using every possible way but it shows [Encountered a problem while installing driver software for this device]

Before i was using it as camera too but now in camera also showing error. How can i update that?

Hello, where is this "Tips for best scanning results"? If it exists please send the link. I could not find any configuration for this app.

I have some other questions about 3D scan:

    -Where 3D SCAN saves files?

-Why do not any of the configuration options appear on my 3D SCAN as shown in the screenshots of the application presentation (see attachment: 1.jpg - as stated; 2.jpg - my application screen).

-When I finish scanning the application closes and I can not find the job anymore.

-I could not find any tutorial on how to configure and use 3D SCAN. You do not have any complete information.

    -Where 3D SCAN saves files?

3D Scan saves files wherever you tell it to. It pops up a file explorer so you can choose where to put it.

-Why do not any of the configuration options appear on my 3D SCAN as shown in the screenshots of the application presentation (see attachment: 1.jpg - as stated; 2.jpg - my application screen).

The app has been updated since it was originally released. That is why 2.jpg looks different, it is the newer version.

-When I finish scanning the application closes and I can not find the job anymore.

That sounds more like the app is crashing, not closing. When the scan finishes you should be offered the option to view the scan in 3D Builder or save the scan file.

-I could not find any tutorial on how to configure and use 3D SCAN. You do not have any complete information.

There isn't a tutorial but there are some tips and tricks on our webpage: https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hardware/3d-print/scanning-with-kinect

Hi there! I'm currently experiencing an issue with the app.  the depth perception seems misaligned with my body, however body tracking works just fine with my SDK.

    Luke.

Someone else in this thread asked the same question. Here is what you do:

If the object and the colors aren’t matching up in your scans you can recalibrate the Kinect alignment. You can do this easily with these steps:

    1.       Plug-in the Kinect and open the Camera app

    2.       If you have more than 1 camera plugged into your computer change the settings so it is using ‘Kinect V2 camera’

    3.       Close the Camera app

    4.       Unplug the Kinect and re-plug it in

Let me know if this works.
