Hello users of Microsoft’s ‘3D Scan’ app!

We wanted to inform you that starting this weekend we will be launching a new version of our 3D Scan app (version 2.0.46.0) and people that have the app installed will see the update show up on their computers soon thereafter.

**IMPORTANT**

The new version of the app requires a new Kinect (for Xbox One) driver to work with your computer and will not be able to scan without it. Additionally the old version of the app will not scan with the new driver. (You can read more about the exciting new Kinect driver announcement here)

The new Kinect driver must also be installed manually. To install the new driver follow the steps below:

  1. In Cortana type ‘Device Manager’ and hit enter
  2. Find ‘Kinect sensor devices’ in the list
  3. Expand everything under ‘Kinect sensor devices’ (this should expose ‘WDF KinectSensor Interface 0’)
  4. Right click on ‘WDF KinectSensor Interface 0’ and select ‘Update driver’
  5. There should be a popup window that asks “How do you want to search for drivers?”
    1. Choose “Search automatically for updated driver software”
  6. Assuming all goes well, you should have just installed the new driver. Right clicking on ‘WDF KinectSensor Interface 0’ again and selecting ‘Properties’ should show you that you have driver version ‘2.2.1610.17001’ or greater
  7. If all does not go well and you did not get the new updated driver with the version listed above, remember that the driver takes time to filter through our backend system and be visible to all locations around the globe. If this happens, please be patient and try the same steps listed above at a later time.

For any issues regarding installing the new Kinect driver please let us know by commenting below.

If you have any feedback for, or issues with, the new 3D Scan app please leave your comments in the Feedback hub (Category: ‘Hardware, Devices, and Drivers’, Subcategory: ‘3D Scan’)

Thanks!

    Hello CBGrant [MSFT],

I am having the same issues that Matias Migo had.

I followed your instructions, changing the depth, but the scan comes out only partially, (like Matias showed in the photo) although in the preview everything is colored.

Moreover, if I take a scan of the front view, without rotating around the subjects, it says there is not enough information to create the model, while in the previous version it was possible and it worked perfectly.

Also, as for my art practice I am very interested in low resolution scans, and I appreciated the fact that in the previous version you could adjust the resolution. Is there any way to change the settings and be able to play with resolution?

Or even, any way to re-install the old version please ?

    Many thanks

    Marco

    cp_sn,

If the object and the colors aren’t matching up in your scans you can recalibrate the Kinect alignment. You can do this easily with these steps:

    1.       Plug-in the Kinect and open the Camera app

    2.       If you have more than 1 camera plugged into your computer change the settings so it is using ‘Kinect V2 camera’

    3.       Close the Camera app

    4.       Unplug the Kinect and re-plug it in

Let me know if this works.

3d scan is not usable, rgb- and depth-channels do not match.

    Hello CBGrant,

I had driver issues after some days with the new driver and my kinect didnt start so I uninstalled everything kinect related and removed all kinect related drivers.

with the device Manager im not able to get any driver from the internet and have to install the 2.0 SDK again to get the old driver (2.0.1410.19000) . But im not able to get the newest one when try to update the driver.

I also have the issue that my TS-PDU3 USB 3.0 card (with renesas chip) isn't reconised as sutible but i bought it course it was recomented as sutible.

    https://www.amazon.de/dp/B003MVJG8Q/ref=pe\_386171\_38075861\_TE\_item

My board should be suatible for this card and its monted on a pcie 16x2 port. I have to let windows install its own driver for the usb3 or the kinect wont even show up in the device manager.

Hope you can help me out a bit.
