Hello users of Microsoft’s ‘3D Scan’ app!
We wanted to inform you that starting this weekend we will be launching a new version of our 3D Scan app (version 2.0.46.0) and people that have the app installed will see the update show up on their computers soon thereafter.
**IMPORTANT**
The new version of the app requires a new Kinect (for Xbox One) driver to work with your computer and will not be able to scan without it. Additionally the old version of the app will not scan with the new driver. (You can read more about the exciting new Kinect driver announcement here)
The new Kinect driver must also be installed manually. To install the new driver follow the steps below:
For any issues regarding installing the new Kinect driver please let us know by commenting below.
If you have any feedback for, or issues with, the new 3D Scan app please leave your comments in the Feedback hub (Category: ‘Hardware, Devices, and Drivers’, Subcategory: ‘3D Scan’)
Thanks!

I can not get this new driver to install please help using latest windows 10
Marco,
That is an interesting use case that I don't think we have considered thoroughly. We designed the app to make complete, or mostly complete, 3D scans. We didn't think that people would use it as a 3D, single frame, snapshot.
Unfortunately, I don't think there is much we can do for you right now. If the new version doesn't do it, it must be a product of the redesign in the code, but I don't think it worked in the last version because we expressly wanted it to.
However, if you rotate the Kinect or the object just a little (a couple of degrees to the left and right, you could probably get something similar to what you are wanting. The Kinect needs more data and that would get it more data. I'm not 100% sure it will work, but it is worth a shot.
Let me know how it goes.
Dear CBGrant [MSFT]
Many thanks for your reply.
As you suggested, I tried to slightly change the depth settings and it's working a bit better with the Kinect fixed and the subject rotating.
However, with the previous version of 3D Scan, it was possible to have the kinect on a tripod and to scan the subject still in front of it, scanning only the front with no elements moving.
With the new revision, this seems to be impossible, as the error message appears, saying that there is not enough data to reconstruct the model.
Please see attached image of a scan with the previous version, both the Kinect and the subject are still.
Isn't this method available anymore ?
thank you!
Marco
Marco,
With your scans is the Kinect stationary or rotating around the object?
Matias' problem was an incorrect depth setting and I think your problem might be the same.
Remember to use your hand to find where the depth ends. Move your hand slowly away from the Kinect until it turns grey. If the Kinect is stationary and the object is rotating make sure, and this is important, that the Kinect does not see anything that is not rotating. If it catches a glimpse of a stationary wall or chair, the scan will be incomplete or partial like you are seeing. If the Kinect is rotating around the model then make sure you set the depth to be able to see everything you want scanned and walk around the model.
Unfortunately, you cannot adjust the resolution settings in the current version and there is no way to re-install the old version.
Let me know if any of this helps. If it doesn't please attach pictures like Matias did so I can get a better idea of what is happening.
Thanks!
