All i know is when M$ pushes a Russian time zone update as Important you have to wonder what the heck is going on really :p

Most likely the US military needs to be on the same page as the Russians. MS agrees to mark it as important instead of personnel frantically digging for it later in the long list of optional updates.

50% on a multiple-core system but 100% on a single-core system? Programmatically, that would be easier to do.

i just switch the dates around so it will never get around to actually updating...

That sounds very futile. MS will ping any time server and know it has an incorrect date anyway. Just put the setting on "never" so you'll know the high-speed fan is not the cause of automatic WU checking.

Yep, checking for updates is now cpu-intensive. Probably done intentionally. Actually it's probably not even checking for updates...instead it's probably solving an increasingly-harder math problem every month so that would explain the increasing amount of time needed for "checking updates" and hence the win10 conspiracy.

First thing I would do is edit your thread and switch it to a real Question and not a Discussion.
