As of today 12 April 2016 Window 7 SP1 hangs in searching for updates.  Unlike other postings in 2015, their is no Orchestrator service in services.msc.  Prior to today Windows update was working fine.  Why is this happening?  Is there any other way to get these updates.  I have restarted the OS to no benefit.

You can if you have office use it's search for updates

Or go to uninstall a program and use Office fix program option.

Unfortunately, after applying 32bit KB3145739, WU still hangs for me!

Softpedia's page says "Most likely, this is a server-side issue that’s going to be addressed soon ..." and "The only solution in this case is to wait and avoid checking for updates manually, as Microsoft is expected to come up with a fix anytime soon."

    http://news.softpedia.com/news/windows-update-hanging-when-downloading-april-12-patches-502886.shtml

so how could KB3145739 solve it ?

What can I try else ?

Sorry this didn't work for you are you running Win7/Win8 the file is for one of them.. The 32bit worked fine for me...

    32 bit version:   HTTPS://www.Microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=51857

    64 bit version:   HTTPS://www.Microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=51853

    Yes I'm running 32bit Win7 I installed last week.

For now I deactivate WU, waiting for an hypothetical Microsoft fix of this problem, whilst I don't find any information about that.
