Windows Update Hangs

As of today 12 April 2016 Window 7 SP1 hangs in searching for updates. Unlike other postings in 2015, their is no Orchestrator service in services.msc. Prior to today Windows update was working fine. Why is this happening? Is there any other way to get these updates. I have restarted the OS to no benefit.

2016-04-15T21:06:16+00:00 Just tried this on a 2nd (a 64 bit) and 3rd PC. It truly works. I have no idea why. I just see that it solves the problem
The third was another Atom-based 32 bit netbook. It found the updates in 11 minutes and is now happily updating. Downloading started almost immediately too.

At my request, a Moderator converted the thread from a Question to a Discussion on 13 April. With ~140 and counting "Me, too!" replies, it's really NOT a question now (and I don't think we've heard from the OP lately).

2016-04-15T20:41:48+00:00 I find it very interesting that my cpu runs at almost exactly 50% for the two cores combined. If usage spikes on one core it dips on the other one. I'm finding that keeping the update service set on manual prevents the high cpu rate from occurring. Only way I can run my printer or browse on Gogle Chrome without problems with core saturation.

The number is indeed correct. Please go to the Softpedia link I referenced. You'll have to load all comments and go down almost to the end to find Chooky's solution.
Apparently my "not new" laptop needed this particular security update to allow Windows Update to resume its normal activity.
You are absolutely right, Joel, it is correct. Unbelievable! Thanks to you and Chooky14 and everybody else who came up with this. Best part is the people who come on and post the problem, so it's known to be a widespread issue and not just one person, and the people who come on and post possible solutions and results, whether they succeed or not. Thanks for sharing and spreading the word.
