Windows Update Hangs

Sheesh, this whole problem is as good as a YAHOO! story about the Kardashians for raising a stink.

PS I fixed mine, the Download is not going to tell you how far along you are until it's time to install and if you are waiting for hours and haven't got a installation that is either new or has sat unused for months or years you should be searching the site for solved questions etc as well as the rest of the internet I guess.

Honestly, I'm going to drop all the email notifications I can find on this topic and go ride one of my vintage bikes with my AM radio playing oldies.

WTH are you talking about I never called you crazy and big deal 31 yrs so I used to work in systems & that's how I know this update issue is a Microsoft issue..

Thank you for your reply on how to stop hibernation..I see in power settings I can set it to sleep as Never etc..but the only place I see hibernation is in the advanced section where you have to set a specific number of minutes..its a lot of minutes for overnight..Is hibernate the same a sleep?

YES. You can change the POWER SETTINGS to avoid it doing this. If you have a key on your keyboard with SLEEP or a crescent moon on it, put it out of reach for fear of klutziness and I suggest either popping it off or changing keyboards. I see little use for hibernation vs. saving and shutting down anyway.

Do you think Microsoft is even working on  this issue ???  Are we being, as window 7 users, forced into windows 10 ??

It's obviously a bug that occurred over time that Microsoft has no intensive to fix.... for the time being I hope! Microsoft.... please help save our planet by not having our computers use up so much power!

First of all, it's NOT really so much their problem to fix...it's a disassociation caused by either leaving the computer without updates for a long period of time, or a new install that needs to be tweaked (this isn't automatic and perfect, and neither are the OTHERS) or maybe even corruption of a file that needs repair.

you are crazy.... a new Windows 7 install shouldn't require any special tweaks to be upgrade ready... remember, a tweak can be in the form of an upgrade. The tweak that is working now is a recent update that came out this month that Most people don't know about.  But you have to download and install it first before using the Windows update.

RobertSerb -- You are absolutely right.  I could see the "it's a problem with your computer" response if it was one or, at most, a few people.  This is many, many people.  Many, many computers.  All with the same problems, both last month and this (and some people, I hear, have been dealing with it even farther back than March).

also if you look at the Microsoft FB page & scan the 'guests comments section' you will see a wide variety of users with different PC's different OS's all having the same problem.. I read somewhere this goes back to 2015.. I use Win7Pro & keep my updates up to date so not going without any as they infer to be the problem.. they are trying to make this an end user problem but it isn't I just received an email from one of the 'answer people here' MSFT telecommute employee (?) indicating : You may obtain Microsoft-sponsored Premium (i.e., paid) Support via the Answer Desk => DUH isn't this forum a Microsoft sponsored forum
