As of today 12 April 2016 Window 7 SP1 hangs in searching for updates.  Unlike other postings in 2015, their is no Orchestrator service in services.msc.  Prior to today Windows update was working fine.  Why is this happening?  Is there any other way to get these updates.  I have restarted the OS to no benefit.

Sorry to come back with another question, especially since it probably should go into another thread. Installing KB3145739 fixed my updates problem as it did for so many others, but I have found that I no longer have the option to receive updates for Microsoft Office. Prior to this mess that Microsoft has created, I was able to get them. Now, that option is gone, and I can't seem to find a way to get it back. It's not because of the installation of KB3145739, but rather due to whatever the MS techs were changing on my computer during their inept attempt to fix the problem. Would anyone know how to enable that option again? Would greatly appreciate it. I really don't want to call MS again and get the same rude jerk I had previously.

Unfortunately, after applying 32bit KB3145739, WU still hangs for me!

Softpedia's page says "Most likely, this is a server-side issue that’s going to be addressed soon ..." and "The only solution in this case is to wait and avoid checking for updates manually, as Microsoft is expected to come up with a fix anytime soon."

so how could KB3145739 solve it ?

What can I try else ?

Joel_CS-----Thanks so much for posting this. Microsoft's technician had installed KB3102810 to fix this, but didn't really work. This update finally allowed me to find updates again. I do have some questions, though, that I hope you (or anyone) can answer for me.

When I installed KB3145739 and restarted my computer, had something strange happen. It restarted into what looked like safe mode and with HP's recovery manager appearing. I closed that out and my computer then restarted normally. Not sure why that happened, just wondering if anyone might know.

I realize the following questions may sound dumb, but I'm not sure exactly what I should do. So, here goes:

1.) Since KB3102810 and KB3145739 are both "update standalone installers," should I uninstall KB3102810?

2.) If Microsoft ever fixes the update problem, should I uninstall KB3145739 at that time?

3.) Is it normal after checking for updates to have some ready to install when shutting down even though you have settings marked to "download updates but let me choose when to install them"? I've always had updates set to automatically install, so I'm not familiar with how things work otherwise. Thanks for any help with this.
