Windows Update Hangs

As of today 12 April 2016 Window 7 SP1 hangs in searching for updates.  Unlike other postings in 2015, their is no Orchestrator service in services.msc.  Prior to today Windows update was working fine.  Why is this happening?  Is there any other way to get these updates.  I have restarted the OS to no benefit.

Do you think Microsoft is even working on  this issue ???  Are we being, as window 7 users, forced into windows 10 ??

It's obviously a bug that occurred over time that Microsoft has no incentive to fix.... for the time being I hope! Microsoft, please help save our planet by not having our computers use up so much power because of the Windows 7 updates taking so long!

I'm doing it right now, downloaded kb3145739 from MS dowlonad center and trying to install it, but I'm still just seeing winow telling standalone windows update installer checking for updates on pc...

I run troubleshooter three times and always get error 0x80072efd.

It is because you have already initiated a manual check for updates.

To resolve this issue, set windows update to never check for updates and then restart the computer. After then try installing  KB3145739 again. When done reboot once more. Then try to manually check for updates again from Windows Update control panel applet.

    SOLVED:

    Windows 7 SP1 64

Extremely frustrated all day yesterday trying every solution posted on the Internet. Then this morning I found this comment on Softpedia's website and it absolutely works (very easy - but why should we have to do this?):

To resolve this issue: first install KB3145739 manually. Go to Microsoft website to download and then install.

Next you should restart and finally you can check for updates in manual mode.

It takes between 5 or 10 minutes.
