New Win7 install will not do windows update ***FINALLY FIXED***

Like others (long lisst on this board....), I have no luck doing windows update after wiping my HD and re-loading Win7 from fresh.  This is an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe MB with 3 Gb of memory with AMD64/4400+  Athlon 64 processor  with OS on a Kingston 120 Gb SSDNow 300 SSD.  Win7 is with SP1.

This will happens with no other software installed (i.e. anti-virus) and immediately after OS installation..  No problem at all with any hardware in “Device Manager”.  The machine will communicate with the web just fine since I went directly to MS and download/ install IE11 which is working and e-mail is also working.  I have tried:

  1. Windows Update Troubleshooter does not work.
  2. Occationally I get error code 8007000E but none of what it says can cause it applies here i.e. language, memory, anti-virus, etc.
  3. MS  “Fix it” – does not work

I MS no longer supporting new win7 installs?

    My OS is the 32-bit version, so I ran the “Windows install update for Windows 7 for x86-based system (KB971033).  The problem is it loads and runs but it is just spinning like what happens when I run regular Windows update i.e. not going anywhere???

    BTW, I looked under "Windows Task Manager", and I can see "WUSA.exe" as one of the processes.  It is using 1,400K memory but "OO" CPU.  This despite the fact that little windows with "Windows Update Standalone Installer" is still up and that bar with the green area is moving....  The only real process that is taking up CPU is "Microsoft Windows Search Protocol Host"

    I can do that but just so that you are aware, last night I ran Windows Update for like 9 hours and it did not go anywhere.

    It's now over an hour and nothing has happened, the panel is still spinning.  I intent to keep it on but FWIW, I am on a cable modem and my wife's PC (which is our slowest computer processor wise) updated in 20 seconds.

    Just an update:  It's been 2 hours and still nothing so I am stopping the process.
