New Win7 install will not do windows update ***FINALLY FIXED***

Like others (long lisst on this board....), I have no luck doing windows update after wiping my HD and re-loading Win7 from fresh.  This is an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe MB with 3 Gb of memory with AMD64/4400+  Athlon 64 processor  with OS on a Kingston 120 Gb SSDNow 300 SSD.  Win7 is with SP1.

This will happens with no other software installed (i.e. anti-virus) and immediately after OS installation..  No problem at all with any hardware in “Device Manager”.  The machine will communicate with the web just fine since I went directly to MS and download/ install IE11 which is working and e-mail is also working.  I have tried:

  1. Windows Update Troubleshooter does not work.
  2. Occationally I get error code 8007000E but none of what it says can cause it applies here i.e. language, memory, anti-virus, etc.
  3. MS  “Fix it” – does not work

I MS no longer supporting new win7 installs?

    It may not apply

    Did you change your update settings ?

    Did you restart and confirm the services posted were running and on automatic ?

    Yes there is something very wrong with M$ update servers ;)

    ThrashZone - Two things:

    1. My machine was successfully activated - it says right there under "Control Panel" "System and Security" "System" that "Window is activated".
    2. I don't think my windows update problem is due to Nortons as in my most recent loading of the Win7 OS, after the OS was activated and before I loaded Nortons, I tried the Windows update and it did not work.

    Thanks for the help and suggestion.  It’s odd but I tried that download and it downloaded but is stuck on “Searching for updates on this computer” – spinning and spinning but nothing else is happening.

    This cannot be my ability to access the web or download because I am logging on this board just fine and I have in the past days downloaded IE11…

    The other strange thing is I have a laptop that is running WinXP Ultimate – with an original version of the OS that came with that Sony Viao.  That machine has successfully download windows update in the past (I can see the list) but now it too cannot do windows update.  Just spins and spins.  Is there something wrong at Microsoft?

    An update:  I checked my wife's PC which is also running WinVista and her machine has no problem getting windows update.  The only common things about the two PC that is having problem getting update is both of them has the OS running on an SSD...
