for all you guys that need to restore your zune. ya need to do a 20 gigs partition with win 7 ultimate updated +.net framework all versions installed + zune software 4.8 + firmware update installing msi (x86 or x64)  :

this will be restoring all zune models ;D

update 04/09/2016 :

  1. make a 20 gigs partition on  hdd
  2. .install win 7 ultimate edition 
  3. install net framework 3.5.1 + all win 7 updates.

4 . install zune software 4.8 and zune firmware msi- (x86 obviously in 32 bit or -x64 in 64 bit system)

  1. plug the zune to computer. it will be downloading the last version of zune drivers
  2. start zune software and update screen will be displaying in main zune softs screen . thats it. 

when you double click zune  firmware-x86 or x64 the msi package install FW .cab files in: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Zune\Firmware Updates 

and firmware update.xml emulates online mode for restoring ;D 

EDIT: FIRMWARE OFFLINE RECOVERY WILL WORK ONLY ON WIN 7.

    First of all! You should get an Award for posting this!!! Thank YOU SOOOOOOOOO MUCH... I tried every other Solution posted on the Web. Serously EVERY!!! So if anyone got the same Problem ...getting his Zune not Synced anymore, cause it´s failing getting the right Firmware on the Zune Software Version 4.8 after a clear reset. THIS IS HOW IT WORKS!!!! THANKS FOR POSTING THIS !!!

    you´re welcome dude. i had the same problem  a little time ago and wrote to microsoft for tech support without any solution.  had the idea about installing win 7 and zune msi´s packages and used my spidersense to solve the riddle . lolololol.. i think mic´s screwed up leaving zune support and development . i love zune players  .if anybody else ya know is having firmware issues  just pass the torch of knowledge ;D

    i know this is an older problem but im a noob to computers can someone help me figure this out just bought my zune because ive always wanted one and im stuck on step to when you plug your zune in and i cant update because its all be shut down now i really want my zune working can somone help me out

    clear as water dude. i dont know specs about your hdd filesystem (guid or mbr) ...your pc bios (legacy or uefi) ... you just need to achieve the goal of install win 7 back to your computer to do the trick . XD. yall be needing only a 20 gigs small partition (use your zune wisely ... or yall be pressing the 3 buttons and will be screwing again yar zune lolol)

    i read it all completely what if i go to my unlces house his pc still hase windows 7 installed could i do it that way instead? and install those last 2 files on his?
