for all you guys that need to restore your zune. ya need to do a 20 gigs partition with win 7 ultimate updated +.net framework all versions installed + zune software 4.8 + firmware update installing msi (x86 or x64)  :

  1. make a 20 gigs partition on  hdd
  2. .install win 7 ultimate edition 
  3. install net framework 3.5.1 + all win 7 updates.

4 . install zune software 4.8 and zune firmware msi- (x86 obviously in 32 bit or -x64 in 64 bit system)

  1. plug the zune to computer. it will be downloading the last version of zune drivers
  2. start zune software and update screen will be displaying in main zune softs screen . thats it. 

when you double click zune  firmware-x86 or x64 the msi package install FW .cab files in: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Zune\Firmware Updates 

and firmware update.xml emulates online mode for restoring ;D 

EDIT: FIRMWARE OFFLINE RECOVERY WILL WORK ONLY ON WIN 7.

    No it didn't work.  The server is up and running now.  I'll send some screen captures.  I love the back to future reference!  As soon as we fix this I'll make like a tree...  and get out of here.  I'll probably stay and try to help David.  So, I am connected to the internet.  I have my computer hardwired into my router.  I did already delete abyss folder on c: and extracted your .rar abyss to C: which is how I got the server to work.  Well I think it's working.  Any ideas?

    lolololol .... ummmm it worked?

    BTW.... its for All zune devices. all last updates to all zune devices.  each model (hd, 30 gigs sd, 120 gigs sd etc... has its own digital signature for unbricking . thats why my zune hd its not shown as zune sd 30 gigs by software ... making an example

    are ya doing this with your pc conected to internet ? 1 think i forgot to mention its... welll obviously you are emulating a server... so ya need to conect to rj45 ethernet cable to update. you must been doing something wrong cause that error its related to abyss

    what are we going to do? erase C: abyss folder . then cut and paste my abyss web server folder to C:  (as i uploaded in rar ) use ctrl-alt-supr for task manager and close abyssws exe. (end task) before deleting your abyss folder

    Francisco,

    I got the server running.  I used your host file and I fixed the abyss conf.  It appears abyss server is running correctly.  When I fire up the zune software and plug in the zune I still get this error:

    Also, on my zune it says "On your PC, open the Zune software and restore the zune device firmware."

    Do I need to be running a certain version of zune?  Should I uninstall and install different version?
