for all you guys that need to restore your zune. ya need to do a 20 gigs partition with win 7 ultimate updated +.net framework all versions installed + zune software 4.8 + firmware update installing msi (x86 or x64)  :

  1. make a 20 gigs partition on  hdd
  2. .install win 7 ultimate edition 
  3. install net framework 3.5.1 + all win 7 updates.

4 . install zune software 4.8 and zune firmware msi- (x86 obviously in 32 bit or -x64 in 64 bit system)

  1. plug the zune to computer. it will be downloading the last version of zune drivers
  2. start zune software and update screen will be displaying in main zune softs screen . thats it. 

when you double click zune  firmware-x86 or x64 the msi package install FW .cab files in: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Zune\Firmware Updates 

and firmware update.xml emulates online mode for restoring ;D 

EDIT: FIRMWARE OFFLINE RECOVERY WILL WORK ONLY ON WIN 7.

    dude... as i did with betrayerofhope. need some screen caps to look your "mess " lololol....  . i need to see where is your abysws . exe

    btw... have you modded host files with 127.0.0.1 resources.zune.net in C:/windows/system32/drivers/etc folder?

    I changed that line to: C:/Abyss web server  and I double clicked on the abyssws application.

    This is what I got:

    -- Default host on port 80 has errors and is stopped (Local URL http://127.0.0.1)

    The system cannot find the file specified. (key: root/server/host/scripting/cgi/errorfile - file: C:\Abyss web server\Abyss Web Server\abyss.conf - line: 48 - col: 5)

    Error while reading/setting the configuration of module scripting (key: root/server/host/scripting/cgi/errorfile - file: C:\Abyss web server\Abyss Web Server\abyss.conf - line: 48 - col: 5)

    Console local URL: http://127.0.0.1:9999

    Do I need to change it to C:/Abyss web server/Abyss web server ?

    Do I need to change the forward slash to a backwards slash?

    I feel so close...

    okay... copy and paste Abyss Web Server folder in root of c ... ya know c:/Abyss Web Server. 

    Edit this on Abyss.conf file with notepad:

    TO THIS :

    please ... betrayerof hope has his screen captures. use them to take a reference . 

    D:\ZUNE\software\restaurar firmware\Abyss Web Server\ its my personal restoring folder ... so ya need to edit it

    Hi, Francisco... I am now in the middle of step 5. I opened abyss.conf and found the following line:

    I:\ZUNE\software\restaurar firmware\Abyss Web Server\

    I have the file folder saved on my c drive and unpacked the download into it. I know I need to reference c:\abyss web server somewhere, right? I don't know whether to replace the line above completely, or only part of it, or none of it. Please, exactly what edit am I making? And after I make the edit, what exactly do I double click on?

    Thank you for your help!  Please don't hit me but I'm having trouble as well.  I've read all 8 pages of these posts and I still cant unbrick my old zune 30gb model 1089.  My daughter recently saved her allowance and bought a zune cord as I told her she could have it.  So the cord arrived today and I came home from work to her listening to it!  I installed the zune software and I removed some 472 pictures and some music I didn't want her to listen to.  Then I formatted the device.  Big mistake.  Now the zune won't be recognized by the software.  So I followed your steps and I still can't get it.  I feel like I'm close.  

    I have the zune software installed in c:/programfiles/zune and abyss is in C:/abyss

    I edited the host file to have the information and I used a space and not a tab.

    I edited the abyss conf and entered the line C:\ZUNE\software\restaurar firmware\Abyss  

    I feel like the abyss server isn't working as it says:

    Abyss Web Server X1 (v 2.11)

    The console is not running

    What am I missing?  What am I doing wrong?
