I had already seen this advice and followed it (as I stated in the post) , so it is something else causing the failure.
Export messages fails using Windows Live Mail 16.4.3528.0331 on Windows 8.1
I am using Windows Live Mail Application Version 2012 (Build 16.4.3528.0331) on a Windows 8.1 laptop.
I am buying a new laptop which will come with Windows 10. I am trying to export the emails from two of the three accounts I have in the current application to back them up and to hopefully import to the Windows 10 email application. (The third account is a web based account so it does not need to be backed up locally.) I want to keep the communications on my local computer and back up drives.
I am following the Microsoft directions for exporting the emails from the application. Although I had no problems exporting the contact files from the application, I am not able to export the emails. A couple of different things have happened.
1 - At first I received a message indicating the data had been exported, but when I went to the folder to which it should have gone, the folder was empty. (I tried this several times.)
2 - Then I was able to get as far in the process as browsing to find the folder I wanted to put the emails in, I was able to select the folders I wished to export, I was able to click on "next" and a split second later (way too short a period of time for the number of emails involved) to click on "finish." None of the emails were exported to the new file.
3 - I repeated the process as in step 2 above twice and instead of attempting to export only selected files, I attempted to export all files. I had the same results - no emails were exported or in one case only one draft email was exported.
I feel confident I am following Microsoft's directions for this process as depicted in their Microsoft Essentials part of their website. Would appreciate some advice. I know I can simply copy the files from the section on my hard drive where they are stored. My concern about using that approach is that importing them to the Windows 10 email application may not work.

2016-02-17T12:24:15+00:00 I uninstalled the five updates mentioned by Anita and rebooted but then received entry point errors when trying to start Windows Live Mail and various other programs so I had to re-install them.
I have to go out now for rest of day but tomorrow I could try uninstalling just KB3127222 as mentioned by Noel and if that doesn't fix problem I could try uninstalling each of the five updates Anita mentioned but one at a time and see if this will help.
Does this sound sensible or does anyone have a better plan?
From Anita's findings it does seem as though the updates are causing the problem so the question is rather than uninstall them wouldn't it be better to get Microsoft to investigate further and fix now the field has been narrowed? If so, how do we get them to do this?

2016-02-17T12:12:42+00:00 This question merged with several others dealing with the same problem

WLM 2012 on Win8 PC. Version 2012 (Build 16.4.3528.0331)
Export worked fine a month ago , but now it appears to run successfully, but ends immediately having only created a FOL file in each of the 4 directories it exports. I've ensured WLM is off line , and created empty folder on desktop. I also saw advice to remove TIFs which I have done. Tried single folder export: same result, just the FOL. Tried "repair" WLM. Didnt help. Thoughts?

2016-02-17T04:57:26+00:00 I uninstalled three Windows updates before I started writing down the release numbers. However I restarted my laptop after each of those three were uninstalled and still had the problem - emails were not exporting.
I then uninstalled KB3134814, KB3134214, KB3127226, KB3127222, KB3126593 – restarted my computer – and was able to successfully export my emails to a folder on my Desktop.
Thanks.

2016-02-16T19:29:13+00:00 There are now three users with the same symptoms using the same version of the program on the same OS. You all appear to have taken the right steps to conduct the export, yet it no longer works as it used to. I have merged the two threads to make the case more manageable.
There is a suspicion that a recent Windows Update may have changed something to cause this to happen. It would help to know, therefore, which updates were recently installed, starting with this month's Patch Tuesday ones released on 9 February and installed within the next couple of days. I haven't been able to spot a likely culprit, but since Windows Live Mail relies on .NET 2.0 for much of its functionality, changes here are always prime suspects.
It's very tedious to troubleshoot this kind of fault. The procedure would be to uninstall all recent updates, reboot and test to see whether the fault still happens. If it does, it wasn't one of those updates that caused it. If it doesn't, it was (most probably) one of those updates. In that case, install the updates again one at a time, reboot and test again. This is what I would expect product support staff to do, but there aren't any.
I would try first uninstalling KB3127222 on the off-chance that this update to .NET 3.5 (which includes .NET 2.0) is responsible. The quick way to uninstall an update: in an elevated command window, type
wusa /uninstall /kb:nnnnnn
To open an elevated command window, press Windows key + X and select Command Prompt (Admin)
