update Window 7 Professional

Only updates that include the 64 info in the title of the update are being allowed to successfully update. The code was 6BB, then changed to a #d one, but I didn't get that written down. I've tried the download of the Repair.bat as administrator and that didn't work. I've run

Troubleshooters that have come up and they think they've fixed everything, but still only a few updates can download. This has been true since February. I thought they were downloading as I've re-tried updating previously and eventually the update window will say "no new important updates"--but those still had failed...updater just seems to have given up on them.

Help! I bought this hard drive for $800 last year to replace the one with Vista that was always difficult. That plus the tech's hours make this an expensive mistake. Does anyone know how to fix this without reloading Win 7?

    Answer-by-number:

I bought this hard drive for $800 last year to replace the one with Vista...

Windows 7 was pre-installed on the new Dell...

I got the new hard drive with Windows 7 Pro installed...all the programs from my old HD put on for me. [SOURCE]

    1. I'm still very confused. First you tell us you replaced the Vista computer's hard-drive (HDD) last year - now you're telling us that Win7 came preinstalled on the computer. Do I have the wrong end of the stick or what?
    2. Is KB3170455, KB3168965, and/or KB3163245 listed in Installed Updates(not Update History)? [1]
    3. When (exact date) was KB3170106 installed according to Installed Updates(not Update History)?
    4. When (exact date) was Internet Explorer 11 installed according to Installed Updates?

    1. Is Adobe Flash Player v22.0.0.209 (or higher) installed? TEST HERE USING INTERNET EXPLORER ONLY! => http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
    2. How long has Windows Update (i.e., automatic updating) been disabled?
    3. Have you ever run the McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool and/or the Norton Removal Tool?

    PA Bear:

Trying to do this right and finding it so confusing. Sorry about all the stuff I'm doing wrong. I really am attempting to follow rules and provide answers, etc.

    1. Forget about the Vista--it's on the old computer but is why I went to a computer with Windows 7
    2. KB3170455, KB3168965, KB3163245 all installed on 7/14/16.
    3. KB3170106 also installed on 7/14/16.
    4. Explorer 11 says June 10, 2016 (that's for the most recent 11 update, I believe...except that I got the one today that bumped it up to the next level).
    5. It says: You have version 22,0,0,209 installed (Adobe Flash Player).
    6. Since Feb 12, 2016 most updates have failed--HOWEVER, some have succeeded--those with "x64-based systems" in their names and one other: Dell Inc. - Display - Dell SE198WFP(Analog).
    7. I do not believe I've run either of those removal tools.

Please tell me if I should change my update setting back to allowing updates.

Thank you so much for your time and help,

    Ariele

We'll still need to "dig a little deeper" here. Please answer each of the following[admittedly tedious] diagnostic questions in a correspondingly-numbered list in your very next reply, preferably without quoting my post:

1a. When (approx. date) did you purchase the Dell computer?

1b. Has Windows 10 ever been installed?

1c. Have you ever done a Repair Install and/or a clean install of Windows 7 since you bought the computer?

1d. Have you replaced the hard-drive since you bought the brand-new Dell computer?

    1. What is the full name of your installed anti-virus application or security suite and when (approx. date) does your current subscription expire? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender) are installed? What third-party firewall (if any)?
    2. Has a(nother) Norton application or a McAfee application EVER been installed on the computer since you bought it?
    • Chances are (99.99%) the Dell computer came with a McAfee free-trial preinstalled. McAfee (and Norton) applications are notorious for not uninstalling (or upgrading) cleanly. The "leftovers" may be your #1 troublemaker here.

4a. Your list of Installed Updates says that Internet Explorer 11 [sic] was installed on 10 June 2016, is that correct?

4b. Were you running Internet Explorer 8 (IE8), IE9 or IE10 before you installed IE11?

5a. When (exact date, preferably) did you disable Windows Update (automatic updating)?

5b. What are the KB numbers of the last four (4) failed updates according to your Update History (this time) and what error number(s) is associated with each failed update? [1]

[2] No need to install Java if it's not already installed!

    1a) 11/03/15

    1b) no Windows 10

    1c) Nope

1d) The Dell computer I have is refurbished...I don't have any other hard drive (except for the old Dell)

    1. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Internet Security 16.0.1\avpui.exe" 589 days left on subscription
    2. No Norton of McAfee which I HATE as I previously had exactly that problem...on another computer. There's NONE on this one that I find in program check.

4a) I'm assuming that was the updated version. I had Explorer on this computer when I bought it 11/03/15. I used it until a boss insisted upon having Firefox.

4b) So I think the answer to that would have to be yes, given the answer to 4a.

5a) Yesterday as "Elder" on MS community said to do that and then Thrashdrive repeated that.

    To complete answers:

    1. Uninstalled Java which was 8 update 65
    2. Went to the higher Flash Player 22.0.0.210 and then deleted the Chrome I accidentally included ;-)
    3. Firefox 47.0.1 is installed but I'm using the Explorer for all these tasks
    4. I don't use any of those registry cleaners

    PA Bear:

Have you given up on me? I did finish doing all those things and answering the questions. Here's the full list of them:

1a) 11/03/15 (Dell computer purchase date)

1b) no Windows 10 (ever installed)

1c) Nope (no clean wipes done)

1d) The Dell computer I have is refurbished...I don't have any other hard drive (except for the old Dell)

    1. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Internet Security 16.0.1\avpui.exe" 589 days left on subscription

4b) So I think the answer to that would have to be yes, given the answer to 4a. (That I had earlier versions of Explorer than the 11 it is now.)

5a) Yesterday as "Elder" on MS community said to do that and then Thrashdrive repeated that. (updated Explorer 11 to 11.0.01)

5b) I) Security Update for Microsoft Office Visio Viewer 2007 (KB2596915) Installation date: ‎7/‎30/‎2016 8:45 PM

FYI--code 6BB at one point switched to code 80246007 maybe on a different update fail. (4 most recent failed updates and error codes)

    1. Uninstalled Java which was 8 update 65

    3. Firefox 47.0.1 is installed but I'm using the Explorer for all these tasks
